Google Announces New Online Advertising Metrics

This morning, Google announced the new ‘Brand Activate’ advertising program, which will provide brands with useful metrics related to quantifying the benefits of online ad campaigns. Google is hopeful that the new Brand Activate program will entice marketers to reallocate money from traditional advertising methods to online advertising. Although Google sells an impressive $38 billion of advertising annually, big brands are currently spending over $190 billion per year on television advertisements. The Brand Activate program is initially focused on providing Active View and Active GRP metrics to the advertisers.

Active View, which Google hopes will become the new standard for online ad impressions, measures if the ad was.....

Fifty percent of an ad for one second seems kind of thin exposure to me. If I’m paying for advertising and I do, then I am looking for a higher threshold for an impression.

Google Redefines "Phrase" and [Exact] Match Types

Here is another blog post on Adwords up and coming changes.

Starting in mid-May, Google AdWords will have new meanings for phrase match and exact match, to "include plurals, misspellings, and other close variants". This will be the new default setting, however, you also have the option to revert back to the traditional setting for phrase and exact match keywords.

You can toggle between these two options at the bottom of your campaigns' Settings tab, under "Keyword matching options".

Interesting thanks for posting.

Does anyone know the technicalities of detecting whether an ad is above the fold or not? Or have I misunderstood that part?

Google mentioned 1 tool to use to see if you have to much above the fold. It's a little hard to understand for me though.

Helpful links, thanks. I still can't see how a piece of javascript can detect where it is in a page layout. This is going to keep me awake all night...
