On April first this year we went live with our new web site. We wanted something new to give it a more colourful attractive look. Since then (3 weeks) our Alexa ranking has dropped like a rock. We were sitting in the low 800K mark now as I write this 1,119,007. That's -100K/week!

Any ideas what's going on would be appreciated.

Alexa is a worthless gauge..it's works off it's tool bar which is also worthless. Alexa won't help anything but a company selling web seo services and claiming they get high rankings in Alexia and thats all it's good for.
In other words download their tool bar and make your home page your site...that'll make you will look real good on Alexia...but what good is it?

Agreed. I'm not sure there's ever been a time when Alexa was reliable or valuable.

The only rank you need to worry about is search engine results.

Why do you care so much about Alexa rank?

It has no direct impact on your site's traffic.

Who cares what Alexa says ? It is only counting their toolbar users.

What are your server stats ?
Have your sales dropped ?
Have your actual visitors dropped ?

Focus on things that matter and not some made up stats website that can't track your website visitors.

why are you stressing so much on alexa? it's just a number. You should focus on increasing your website rank and getting traffic to your site. Your alexa will decrease as well once you build links anyway.

But like Ord said, it's not like your sales will drop because of your alexa ranking.

If you really need to know, alexa increases due to lack of content on your site, If you are so worried then just update content more often and build links.

Increase pageviews per user to get it back.

Unless its an issue to sell advertising, I would put this in back burner.

In order to increase page views content needs to be added to the site and links need to be built to receive rank and getting the traffic. Don't bother buying traffic, it's usless if you're thinking of it.

As many other fellow posters, I can't get why Alexa is so damn widely spoken of. It's just another over-advertised myth, in addition even more useless than Google PR. Who has seen at least a more or less steady proof it even works? Anyone?

If i was to buy advertising on a website, i would ask for there Google Analytics stat's or a screenshot of lasts month's stat's and don't care about the alexa ranking. Unique visitors is what i look for and Google Analytics provides more legit stat's.

It's a myth alright and still being talked about many years later.

wait hold on there, don't compare google pagerank to alexa. First of all you can satisfy way more with google pagerank then alexa. Selling text links and content links for example for having pagerank brings great advantages and money to your site, advertisers seeking ad placements or guest posts. You can do so much more the google pagerank. Alexa is just "where is my traffic coming from" sort of thing, but even at that may as well just sign up with google analytics

i think we should concentrate on page rank more than alexa rank. because page rank is given by google.

Actually you should focus on marketing your site. Page rank means very little.
