well, from an internet marketing standpoint, it keeps your valuable lead list in one location and allows you to set up automatic emails that keep your name and/or product in the leads face until they either opt out or buy in submission

no, really, it's not that bad, but that's basically it. I used to work for a big internet marketer and he swore by the power of his list.
