I started a new site several weeks ago and need some guidance and tips on the proper way of marketing it.
Its a Diablo 3 Community and im trying to hit the ground running.
I am launching a contest shortly. What can i do to get the most out of my Contest and any marketing?

The best way to be successful in the Diablo community is play the game and build up a clan. Being a programmer/hacker will help a lot as these are the main reasons people go to forums for Diablo games.

Since it's going to be an online game, it would be cool if you're going to do some advertisement in game. Just like what TizzyTazzy here said, build a clan, or something. It would also be great if you took advantage of social media sites to reach out to the people you know who will be playing the game.

For the contest, the prize matters all. Try to have a good and useful product as a prize or have some dollars given as prize. Try to advertise your contest on social media sites, you will surely get good results

Just as Funyug mentions, start talking about your contest as soon as possible and really showcase the prize. I would do this through social media and word of mouth (don't underestimate this form of marketing). I'm not a huge gamer, but I am sure there are places around you that support gaming...talking to those people will really help.

For running a contest, aside from giving prizes, I think it's good to also provide giveways for those who signed up in your forum which will be selected randomly. I think this can also help you encourage more members to join on your forum. Then start promoting it on social media sites, or on your blog etc.

You can do SEO (search engine optimization) and it can work if you can keep some time on it. Mainly you should have some analytical skills, patience and researching attitude to try difference ways to see which one can exactly work for you.

The best way to promote your website is via Social networks. Create your own page and give maximum awareness to people around you. You can first start by spreading out the news from your own status and ask your friends and family members to join your page and also ask them to recommend your page to others as well! It will help you to instantly get 100's of Likes on your Facebook page. However it is surely a very time consuming and hard task, but it will surely help you to reap maximum benefits.
Besides that, you should also write some Press releases, Blogs etc. about your product and the contest in order to impart maximum awareness about your product and contest over the internet.

Their are several great ways to market your site. Being an active member of relevant communities are a great way to advertise it. Paid advertising is useful and also a great thing however that can be expensive so you'll need to spend a little bit of effort on that.

Announce your contest via Facebook PPC to fans of other similar game pages, send them to your page for details. Send an email via Facebook to 3000 of your gamer friends and ask them to "Like" you, then start posting contest info, "cheats", "free play" opportunities, etc. to your Timeline - atleast 2x/week.

It's great to launch a contest (I think)
Try to promote that contest with paid ads.
If you already have the list of your targeted audiences, then reach and share your new brand to them

If you write about subjects the Diablo 3 community would be interested in, share these articles on N4G.
Talking from experience, that that site can send you thousands of visitors within hours.

Before knowing on how to market your site, you should know if your site is legal or not. One thing you do not want to see is a DMCA take down notice, once you have started to make money. For example, if one buys the the facebook247.com domain and if this domain gets famous, I bet Facebook makes sure to bring it down.

for this kind of niche you only have one thing to do
spam the chatbox related to games, in past i used an email list coming from my website and send an offer to over 10K email and the conversion was 5%, the payout was 10 $ so i made some money with it, i remember i used a gaming test program,
so if you have an email list or something it could help you
