The best marketing methods are SEO and Pay Per Click. You can easily decide what is the one you will choose.

Those are 2 paid ways though.
Well if you learn SEO then you don't have to hire someone.
PPC is a good way to recieve targeted traffic if you know what you are doing but can get expensive if you don't know what you are doing.

PPC and CPM through Google Adwords system would be better for e-commerce websites selling products online but make sure if your participation is meaningful. The key metric ROI can be used to calculate your Adwords participation success.
Organic SEO is also important to reach targeted users. As you know Google is a largest source in the Information Technology that redirecting more number of users to your website. Therefore doing good SEO is must in order to reach more targeted users. You can do the same in Bing and Yahoo SE also. These two search engines nowadays are striving hard to provide better user experience. Participate in the social media community Giants facebook and twitter as well.

For me it's PPC advertising, backlinks, affiliate programs and word of mouth. And, oh, unique content is kind of a big deal too.

Duplicate posting on website over and over with the same post is by far the "WORST" marketing method. It is known as spamming websites.
To answer the OP:
The best marketing methods are the ones that you try and test and work best for "YOUR" needs. It is easy for someone to say bookmark, post on blogs, post on social media, and etc.
It is another story for someone to actually put in some work on their marketing and test different strategies. Some people may not like bookmarking or may not like to create or even view videos. Others may love these things and this is why I say you must do what is best for "YOU" and not what other say.
Part of marketing is testing things and see how they work. You may go post an ad on craigslist that works very well while someone else posting a similar ad does nothing. This is why you test, to see what results you are getting.
To start off with you should be posting within social media by testing different post and see which ones get interest and which ones do not. The ones that get interest should tell you how social media is responding to your post. You should then continue post to social media sites using this method that you have tested and does get interest.
Once you have mastered that through testing and tweaking, then you can move on to something else. This could be writing articles or even creating videos. There is no "ONE" best method. It is all about hard work, testing, tweaking, and continue to build your marketing by being diverse on the marketing methods.

3. Article Directories
4. Forum Backlinks
5. Blog Commenting
6. Web 2.0
7. Tier Link Building
8. YouTube
9. Twitter, Facebook (Social Networking)
10. Directory Listing (Google Webmaster Tools)
The ultimate goal is to build your list and take down your reader's email address to send them a weekly or monthly round-up of your blog posts and make them have more confidence in your services.
I recommend trying out each tip one by one until you fully mastered the blog traffic tips and your website will be absolutely KILLER. You might want to try out this strategy I made a strategy game called "Goal-Gift" by which you set realistic goals for the next 30 days like "Post 10 posts on 4 different forums everyday" or "Write one guest post every 2 days". At the end of 30 days, review the experience and see how you did! If you did well, give yourself a pat on the back; Go to the store and buy the latest video game or go on a shopping-spree anything that can help you de-stress, you deserve it.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be more than happy to answer your questions! ;D

If you read carefully, I wasn't duplicate posting. I type in different paragraphs to different situations of different people. Just because I wrote the same tips does not mean I duplicated the post, but rather I'm sharing my personal opinion and tips that have worked for me with the OP.
Do not accuse me of spamming before reading through each and every one of my posts. For some posts I give the OPs different advice

Please note that I have not gotten a signature on my posts yet. Instead of flaming me for 'spamming' to increase traffic to my website, I am truly trying to give others advice. By disapproving of my tips and attracting more attention to yourself is pretty disrespectful...

Adsense is only used if the website owner wants to make money. This isn't a marketing method.

Here's probably some of the best advice you'll get: create quality content. If you give your prospected viewers something they want, they will come back for more. You just need to ask yourself what you can give them. I like to do in-depth tutorials on my blog, which gets me visitors. I've also done some how-to videos on youtube which also has gotten me some hits on my youtube channel (~7,000 total). You say you do home improvement? Start a blog on home improvement tricks and make some videos that show things even little old ladies can do.

We cannot ignore the effectiveness of linkbuilding in marketing strategy. I also like social media promotion in sites like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
