I read this article on craigslist.com how there is no moderation like there would be if the advertisements were placed in a newspaper...
I read one about an ad renting apartments:
Quote:
|
$400 for a 2 room apartment: Preferably single or college girls
|
Now we all know what that means! But maybe it's for the best, who wants Internet Police anyways?

eBay owns a large percentage of Craigslist, so I'm sure someone is always watching.
Although they do admit they are more relaxed on moderation on craigslist so it doesn't lose its "small town" feel.

For what aspect? Craiglist is jobs, houses, autos, gigs, personals and much more.
The most similar thing with that all in one place is your Newspaper. Now most papers offer online ads with there newspaper listings (such as Phillys Tri-Classifieds.)
However, craigslist makes it real easy to advertise in different cities (i.e. different newspapers.) all for free. I'm sure there are other alternatives, but for an all in one resource there is nothing that drives as much traffic and will provide as much viewers depending on your specific region and category.
If you are looking for nationwide viewers as opposed to local, newspaper is obviously not worth the time or money.

ebay's International version of Craigslist. It is a pretty cool site. They even have a Skype option where you can call the person right online about their ad.
Craigslist is great if you live in a big city. The rest of the country (including my little town) still rely on the local newspaper for classified advertising. Craigslist is heading in the right directon, but I think it will take a long time for Craigslist to infiltrate every small town newspaper in the country.

Try Backpage.com, it's owned by Village Voice Media, the network of US alternative weekly newspapers of which New York's Village Voice is the flagship.

Visit Classifieds Website Directory MainClassifieds.com
Visit MainClassifieds.com, it is a new web directory that only lists classified related sites like Craiglist, Personals, Real Estate, Jobs, etc. You can find most of the classifieds links there.

craig's list is great for getting some initial exposure for a site. For awhile now it's been a little hidden secret for webmasters to get some good pr, or to get indexed quickly. I've used it on occasion.
My girlfriend even used it to advertise her real estate service and got a ton of traffic to her real estate site that way.

"Has anyone had any success with MySpace marketing? I've heard good things about it, but nobody with solid experience/results."
One of my forum mods has a MySpace affiliate marketing group and has written a couple good articles about MySpace Marketing. Here they are:
Marketing Yourself On Myspace

Myspace Marketing 2

I have had really good luck advertising jobs on Craigslist. Keep trying to think of a creative way to advertise my site without getting black listed as a spammer. I hear the traffic can be really good if they don't delete your link.

I have tryed craigslist, things I notice on craigslist is they respond to your ad , but they end up not buying. For example I tryed selling my brand new printer. 4 people called me, they all said they will buy it, they even told me when they will come, but none of them ever showed up. I don't know why they did that. I heard a lot of them do that. I believe people on craigslist look for something cheap to buy.

lol, maybe, now that I think about it, it maked sense, or the people their are lonely they just want to talk to somebody. I mean they guy spoke to me for 15 minutes, asking every question about the printer ( all the info was aon the ad anyway) he set a time to come, so I waited, I waited one hour , so I called him and told him why he has not showed up yet. He was like, something came up, but I will be their in another hour. But he never showed up. I stayed 2 hours home, so he would come. Then he calls me again and says he will come tomoroow, again he never showed up. Then few days later someone else calls me for the printer, same exact thing happend again. He never showed up. I ended up selling the printer on ebay.

I just found out a friend of mine just wrote a book about how to market on CraigsList.
The Unofficial Craigslist Book
"The Unofficial Craigslist Book is the first and only book that details how to use the power of Craigslist to double sales, attract new customers and blow your competition away. This 96 page e-book is full of real, proven methods that work."
http://www.craigslist-book.com/
Craig the actual OWNER of Craigs list contacted her with congrats on the book yesterday and she just about fell over.

8 visits to my site and 2 emails inquiring about the writing job. After a few hours, I'm starting to really like Craig's list!

Interesting idea. Not the marketing thing, but Craigslist itself.
