Well my own ad was deleted because people flagged it for spam. Not sure why since I really am hiring writers... Anyway, the two people who inquired about the job never wrote back - I thought that was funny considering the stories other people told about people contacting them but taking no action.

Thats another problem their, your ads get flagged for no reason, and if you repost it and if its flagged a few times again they ban your account.

Intresting that Craigs list has that many results. Maybe I will give it a shot. I host Game Servers, Web Hosting. Where did those other guys who had the gaming companies advertise please?

We've tried Craigslist with mixed results. You can get visits to your site, but in the main it's hard to get your adverts seen around all the spam that's going on there. With so many rules in place (which is good) there doesn't really seem to be much monitoring by the board owner(s). They've also taken to "ghosting" ads even if you follow their guidelines to the T.... so it could just be a waste of effort for many.
Also some decent advice is to realize what the social media communities are all about and play ball with each group. Shoving stuff down people's throats never works, and will really hurt you if you go about it wrong in any social area (this one included lol!).
My two cents

With so many people bombarding CraigsList with spams sure they spend lot of time and effort removing them. Some people just live by posting ads there! This site is a perfect example of how an ugly site could be such a big hit with its usefulness. I use this site example when I try to make a point for graphics designers how unnecessary their work is(its not of course)
Here is another option for classified advertising, webcosmo.com.
Some great features of this site include:
- Countrywide/statewide/local ad posting. That helps the seller/advertiser reach a larger audience without posting ads in multiple locations.
- Free to post in any categories, any locations.
- Digests advertising easily.

How about any other classified ads?

I shall suggest you to try backpage and kijiji.
If it is money making scheme then you can try adlandpro too.

I have used Craigslist with good results in the past.
Tips for using it when selling products....
Make a typical listing with one item that you are selling, not some spam listing about all the items you are selling on your website.
Have a link at the bottom of the page that says something like. If you like this item, but you are looking for something different, I have other similar items / products that I am selling, please visit my website. (List the address using a href code. )
I have noticed that on a websites I had listed on Craigslist, it has resulted in backlinks from Craigslist. Which means they do not use nofollow on their listings.
Note: The item you are selling, it better be a real item that you are intending to sell. If people email you for more information and they find it's a fake listing they will get mad and report you.
Your listing will stay in craigslist for a long time, but after a set amount of time, if someone clicks on an old listing, it will automatically be removed. I am not sure of the exact time, but I once clicked on a backlink coming from craigslist, and the page said that this is an outdated listing and it will be removed shortly. As a result I lost my backlink for a few days until I remade another listing.
There is some more rules for listing on craigslist and using it as a promotional service, but this should get your started in the right direction.

Craigslist is great for local websites and services. I would never recommend you to spam craigslist with online casino or xxx sites...
Just be fair.

Thanks for sharing. But I don't agree with above statement. There is no reason that craigslist will remove an ad because it is getting visitors from other websites. Google normally indexes craigslist ads within 24 hours. If an ad is flagged after google has indexed it, google will take time to remove it from it's index. So you may face this situation with old ads where you get an ad by google search but the ad no longer exists.

No, it's not because of an ad getting visitors from a website. Craigslist has a script that the website runs that removes ads that are of a certain age. I believe it's 60 or 90 days, after that if someone clicks on the ads either from craigslist, search, etc, it checks the ad and puts it on need to be removed from the database, because it's old.
Sorry if it sounded like it was removed for clicking on it, it was removed because of the age. When I had noticed the backlink in Google analytics, I followed the link to see what it was, and thats when it said this ad will be removed, because of the age of the ad.
This script is how Craigslist gets rid of old ads that are outdated, but in most cases the ads can stay for a long time with no removal because it's no longer at the top of the list to be seen or reviewed, but it still counts as a backlink if you have a href tag in there.

How about Article marketing - and posting your articles in directories with your signature in the bylines, that appear the bottom of the article? Of course, it would depend on the content you write. There are various resources on this, the "how-to's", tips. Check out "Internet Marketing University" (type in google). The site has FREE content and great material on different strategies. They are currently relaunching but feel free to keep in touch letting me know if it helped. Another thing is Niche marketing, targeted marketing with your content so that the people visiting are actually those who are looking for your content and willing to make a purchase.
