I'll put the value of a proper press release submitted to a journalist and resulting in an article on a pr8 newspaper website up against any and all of the craptackular free press release go no where sites any day of the week and ten times on sunday.

1. for the seo benefit, and
2. for the traffic

I used press release, not much in the way of traffic, but you will get listed on google very quickly.

I dont doubt that what dominic is saying is quite true. A press release of the nature he describes would probably be a lot better than 100 free press releases but they do have their plus points for helping to list in search engines etc.
