Press Releases
Hi i'm new to this site so hi all
What do you think about press releases? I have been considering them as a way of advertising my website http://www.freeithelpdesk.com/ but would like to find out other peoples experience of them first.
Cheers.

Depends what you want to achieve with them. If you are looking for links, then PR subs aren't really a great way to go (work OK as part of a larger link campaign though).
For traffic and buzz, good PR can be great - really only works to full effect if you have something interesting to say though.

A well optimized press release can be an extremely effective marketing tool. Your Press release should contain newsworthy information and should be optimized with keyword-rich content. Online press releases do have much importance when it comes to strong search engine presence, web site traffic, and brand awareness.

i've only used prweb.com so far because I thought I would try a free service initially (although they do try their best to get money out of you). Waiting to see the results in a few days as to how many hits I get from it as there is a link on the release.

I've used their free service before and landed over 30 backlinks from one single press release. I'm sure if you spend the $80 to have your link automatically included and you have a solid press release, you will get picked up.

When used correctly, there really is no downside to a PR.
Just ensure its written well and is of interest to people.

I have now added my press release to 10 PR sites without spending any money. I know paying for a quality release might be a good way of gaining traffic but it will be interesting to see what kind of returns I get from the free press releases
These are the sites I added my release to;
Prweb.com
Pressbox.co.uk
Free-press-release.com
Prleap.com
I-newswire.com
Pr.com
Free-news-release.com
Clickpress.com
Pr9.net
Free-press-release-center.info

I have been meaning to write a press release for some time, so I would be very interested in how well your free press release submissions do for you.

So far i've had most of the 10 Free Press Releases accepted with a few that were rejected because they were deemed to be me promoting my website rather than news worthy content, which was a fair point. Most are not so fussy and will let most releases in.
I will keep you up to date in the next week or two as to how many visitors I have received as a result of these and whether it was worth the effort

Well after a week or two since I submitted my press releases to those 10 sites I have got between 10 and 20 visitors as a result. Not a hugely impressive result but it didn't cost anything
Also when I search for my website in google etc the press releases show up in the results. I would recommend that if you have the time then it can be worth while for you website but don't expect too much.

Hi,
I was thinking about press releases too but do you submit the same press release to all of NN press release sites ?
The traffic they bring may not be huge but targeted which I think is more important

I submitted the same press release to all websites. Submitting different press releases to each site would have been a lot more work than needed. I produced the press release in word and pasted it to save time.
One thing I would say is make the title interesting, this helps to get more views for your press release. Make people think 'whats this about?' and that's what gets the results.
Also keep it relatively short so you don't bore people into giving up reading and also try and keep it light hearted and interesting without sounding unprofessional. Its more difficult than you might think
