Will GBuy be good enough to compete with Paypal?

Google has recently launched GBuy. Thus, I don't think that many would have the opportunity to try it out yet.

However, looking at the features provided and comparing that to Paypal, in your professional opinions, reputation aside, which one serves you better?

I dont have a paypal account. After seeing the promo video for Google Checkout I'm frustrated I can't get an account in the UK, cos if I could I would certainly get one.

We'll have to see how this will shake out in the future. There is no doubt that the Google folks are extremely creative and have probably addressed many of the issues that Paypal users have. Time will tell. Paypal has a massive advantage in the marketplace. I'm so used to using them that moving to GBuy would have to be based on recommendations from others.

I think it should be a lot better than PayPal. PayPal have dominated this area for so long and now its time for them to be given a kick up the backside that may make their service better eventually. Theres nothing better than good competition for us consumers

Unacceptable product categories

PayPal is great for that, so Google's shooting itself in the foot big time if you ask me.

I think we need a seperation of Church and Search amendment to the Constitution.

Guns, I can see (maybe), but brass knuckles, etc? Either you are a payment processor or you're a moral authority, can't be both.

Huh? Whatever.

Again with the morality.

EBay Says No to Google Checkout

PayPal is positioned too well, and I don't see Google grabbing a significant market share. Especially with it only being offered to the US.

Agreed

I don't think it will take off like other Google stuff because of how deeply twisted in paypal is. There are mods/hacks everywhere for everything on the web to use a paypal donation/payment.

Couple things on paypal pissed me off tho and I'd be willing to give it a shot. Account got banned cause I was underage (big twist of crap being under 18 and having wholesale license) and now I can't use that email with paypal anymore and can't use paypal with the same bank account number. PoS

I bet that in the very near future GBuy will become the payment processor of choice for webmasters. Note I don't mean for their typical products that they would sell amongst their typical visitors. I mean, like exchanging funds for link exchanges, website sales, advertising sales, etc...

Seems logical to me to want to keep things all separate and this would just be an easy solution.

Man, Thanks for this one guys, I'd missed it completely.

It's sure strange to see the twists here...
But I guess when you say you're not going to be jerks...
I know I'm paraphrasing.. what's the slogan "not be evil"?
I think that's what my kid told me it was...

But it's a strange line isn't it? We process your payments...
if we agree with the purchase...?????????

On the other hand, google dominates a lot of landscape, so
I have a feeling this will not be an exception. The question is
will it be what WE want or just another reason for problems?

I'll have to go check this out now.

Thanks for the post on this!

Lizzie

That's true. Wow. I can't believe the issue of Google taking up two fronts in e-commerce slipped me.

Sneaky little fellas they are!

Well, looking at it. I would say Paypal is still the one to run things (at the moment, at least). After all, everyone prefers someone who has no vested interest into what we are doing (in context with the argument)

Anyone yet to disagree?
