Sudden Drop in Traffic

Over the last month and half, the traffic on my site has dropped from around 850000 vistors to 650000. Over the last year I have progressively been getting more traffic and it reached about 900,000 visitors a few months ago. Now the traffic has dropped off.

Besides the fact that people are not visiting my site as often, can anyone tell me if there is anything I should be looking for that could effect such a drop in traffic. My website is www.tvacres.com

I'd appreciate any feedback

Thanks

drop in what kind of traffic? Are you just referring to organic search results?
Can you tell us what some of your old high ranking competitive keywords?

Have you created a MySpace account for your site to recruit traffic from there? I can see your site being of some interest to the majority of the demographic on MySpace.

I know traffic drops on business opportunity sites in the summer months. It may be the same for your site as well. My traffic will go up after the long weekend in Sept.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the suggestion. I opened an account this morning. Maybe that will send a few more folks my way. I appreciate your comments.

Most likely it's a seasonal adjustment. In the summer, there are less visitor visiting websites whatsoever.

Nothing actually. My site provides subject access to TV Program facts and trivia. The site has grown popular over the past six years. I haven't invested anything but content to the site. I pay no fees to advertise my site. It's just possible with all the other sites on the internet that people are just going elsewhere for the summer.

I was told I should look at the bottom of my server report for the keywords being accessed but I don't know what to do once I get that information. Pay a bid for those words? Not sure how that works.

According to me, to get more traffic most important is concentrate on your keywords. Use targeted keywords in your content. Also you can use PPC. Both methods will help you in getting more traffic.

It is amazing to me that your getting that kind of traffic with NO PPC or SEO work (apparently)...Nice going. You NEED to look at the analytics of where people are coming from to determine how to get more.

You can use any number of programs to analyze it, but the time spent will be WELL worth it!

Best;

Eric

If all your sites rely on SE I don’t see a major drop in traffic? Sorry but the post is too vague so all we can do is guess the problem and magic up a solution.

There are lot of tools to analyze traffic (I'd suggest to consider Google Analytics). Compare your previous month(s) to similar time and try to look it from different angles: is it Google where the drop is? Regular users or new users? US users or global? main page or whole site?
