isn't there anyone familiar with migrate easy software or any other ones
(generally, am interested in Acronis company, but any argued post voted for another company will be considered as well).

RedruM* is an unknown quantity at this point
I rekon if you want to keep stuff. Just buy some big cds. Or buy a cheap second hand hard drive. Save all the files on it.

Since you are going to be buying a new pc. I would suggest saving the important data to cds. If you copy the whole hard drive from the laptop to a newer one you may run into driver issues. If you do not have a way to copying the data to cds then I would suggest going with laplink filemover. It will allow you to move the important data from the laptop to the new pc. Hope this helps.

My suggestion would be to back up all your important data onto disc's, its just good to have a hard copy.

If you have a ADSL modem or a home network, transfer the files over, ive done it before using my speedtouch adsl modem transferring files through the ethernet line. I transfered about 10gbs in 15 minutes, my modem speed is 100mbps.

Is your laptop's harddrive removable? When I got my new computer I just made my old hard drive a slave drive to my new Uber one.

jezza chan - is it possible to backup OS via network?
kenmendoca- it's removable, but u see laptop was quite old (4-5 years ago bought ), so HD size is 20 gb. it's quite useless to make it slave.
now, have u ever heard about Acronis company products?
are there any known bugs? is their product ATI worth buying?

That's how big my slave drive is. I slowly migrated over the files I needed, then I just deleted everything from the small one and now it's my mp3 drive. Just an idea.
