Can a new site ever make it big these days?
Can a new site ever make it big these days?
Hi, I have just started a new site, MarketGround.com.
I have designed it to be a Free Online Classifieds Forum.
My question is, do I stand any chances to ever make it big, and become popular? If yes, what search engine marketing strategies would you recommend?
Thanks a lot!

I definitely think there is always potential. But honestly there are very few just forums that make it "big". I would suggest adding content. I think your idea could work...but think about what those who sale items online would be looking for and those visitors would want. I don't exactly know what those are but do a little research, add some content, and work hard! Good luck
And welcome to v7n!

There is always a potential for new sites to be successful, but if you are starting a trade site, it is essential you put down some ground rules and watch for fraud, or your classifieds will soon be dominated by scams. Look into the failures of similar sites to your own and use them as a learning tool. In addition, be sure your site is easy to navigate and use, be sure to include captcha to prevent bot posts, and good luck. If the right group of people finds the site interesting, it will flourish.

Well I think it would require a lot of marketing power and some time to take to there.

Definitely, with constant attention to detail and upgrading with fresh content regularly, some sites will be able to develop a regular user base, but it does take work. The problem is, any abuse will deter the honest users.

I adamantly disagree. If you are looking for success that you can count on, both now and in the future, not just a flash in the night, then hard work is a huge part of that.

edit: I have completely lost my mind. For some reason I thought you were saying that hard work had nothing to do with it. Please accept my humble apology.
P.S. Thinking I need to get my new reading glasses re-checked.

I suggest you use a nice open-source content manager and offer more than just forums.

I have been told that most of the time you need a massive advertising budget - and great promotional strategy. I think that you can get there eventually without the massive dollars if you work hard at it. Would be easier to get stuff off the ground with money though!!!

I agree with everyone here. It can be done with a lot of hard work and you need some talent. You dont have to do this with money. A little will help now and then, but you can do the work and see the rewards later down the road. Dont expect an immediate payoff unless you come up with something revolutionary.

You have to offer your visitors something of real value. As the web
gets larger and larger there is more and more competition for real
people's attention, so you've got to do something to grab it.

True, although you need something that is worth having in order
to stay there.
