I could say it could take anywhere from a couple of months to two years also, which would, in a round about way, not be misleading also. However, it doesn't help the OP with generalities as such.

If someone has a well thought out plan of action, traffic could pile in within days or even weeks - not months or years.

As I've said previously, one well-place backlink could bring in qualified traffic almost immediately.

I think you should consider 2 tactics below:
1) Paid traffic
2)Phantom keyword

For me it takes 1 year. Because I made so many mistakes and learn from them.

Good point. I think we all make SEO mistakes in the early days. Some common ones would be keyword stuffing and generating a few toxic backlinks.

When it comes to link building be careful of adding your URL to the footer of all client websites etc. Google seems to have started taking a very dim view of that tactic. It looks a bit like a link farm.

Before hoping to get trafffic, we need to create a good content and start sharing on the internet. I often use Quora, Linkedin and Twitter to share my post. The traffic is stable but only small.

Google frowned upon this ages ago and went after a template provider.

I can't find the news about what Google did right now but here Cyrus Shepard of Moz wrote back on April 4th, 2014:
Quote:
Don't link externally in the footer

A couple of other rules that I see people violate all the time that Google has made painfully clear in the past few months: Don't link externally in the footer. Just don't. I'm not going to go into the reasons. Just don't do that.

Avoid site-wide links

By the same token, except for navigation, avoid site-wide links. This is something that we've known for years. If someone links to you externally, site-wide, in the side bar, that's ripe for Penguin-style links.

How much is some traffic? 6-7 a day?

I also wanted to add the organic is typically 7-15, although the SEO only really started in the last few weeks. The rest is coming from social shares and other channels I advertised in.

For my company it took around 5 years, until we were fully satisfied with the traffic flow. In the early stage of the company's existence, it was all about the SEO. 100% of out time and resources were devoted to SEO. Then we realized that there are other elements that we should optimize (our user experience, graphical design, social media profile).

It is a very common question asked by people, who are new in this field. Truly, no one can predict that how long your site will take to start receiving traffic. It only depends on your planning and on your budget and your strategies. If you take help of paid marketing then within one day, you can get traffic. However, if you have not money to spend on marketing then the best way to get traffic in minimum time is to hire a freelance writer from any freelancing site such as contentmart.com. Hiring freelance writer is easy then paid marketing. High-quality content is the guarantee to get healthy traffic in short time.

Nope! There's no guarantee anywhere that says good, or even great content will magically develop traffic. The only way anyone gets good qualified traffic is with PPC, great IBLs (for traffic, not SERPs) and either you or someone else "working it" in different ways.

It depends on your keyword, competition and how many searches the target keyword has. I t takes me probably a year before I see traffic rolling in.

It also depends on your target market and keywords. For very focused, niche keywords, the ramp could be much smaller, but much shorter. For some highly competitive keywords, the answer to that question could be never.... you may never be able to push out the well-established folks already ranking for those keywords.

But, as the other posters have noted, patience is important. It may take 3 - 18 months to gain the traction you need to drive consistent, sustainable traffic. And be cautious... any shortcuts you take now could backfire on you later.
