This list is a matter of opinion in some ways since some people have more success than others with each one depending on the type of site they have. They all do coincide with each other and should be used completely to their fullest potential.

For example Press releases will give you a great and quick boost of traffic and a certain amount of that traffic will be retained as either repeat customers or readers depending on the type of site you are promoting and the quality of the site and its products.

Forums posting in the forums that relate to your specific industry with quality and authoritative posts can also help you tremendously. If you simply make posts to get your links in place and offer no real information then you will not look like you have any idea what your product is about and thus will not receive many visitors to your site this way.

Emails to VIPS is almost a dead one anymore since many of these people will use email filtering tools and it is considered spam unless you have their permission through an opt in email signup system.

Links are very important both incoming and outgoing. This you should do no matter what. Even if a link does not give you traffic, but is on a high page rank site you will get some benefit from it. Remember that links even if each one sent you 1 to 2 hits a day if you have enough links out there your traffic could be huge and if yours links are written well your traffic will be pretty well targeted to give you a good Sales rate from these.

Blogging should be done that is a compliment to your main passion. So if you are blogging as a way to increase traffic on one of your sites make sure you are knowledgeable first of all and then provide unbiased articles for your readers. Do not simply say that your site is the best thing ever. Do fair articles about competitors as well. This shows your site as a neutral site and not just a marketing machine for your main product on another site.

Lastly tell everyone you know and meet. Hand out your business card when you can and market locally if your product allows. Local marketing has a tendency to become viral and soon spread nationally if you offer a good product because people tell everyone they know no matter where they live and this is a good thing.

If you're just promoting your website, don't forget mixing traditional forms of getting the word out. And, in some cases the articles/ads/classifieds run in print and online.

-Newspapers (Ads, press release, classifieds)
-Magazines (Reviews, Ads)
-Fliers/Brochures
-Event Sponsorship
-Radio
-Television (If your market is worldwide, it may be very costly, but if your market is within a region, you'd be suprised at how many people watch T.V. still!)
