Contests?

So I am having a posting contest on my music forum, BeatForums.com, where if you have an average of more than 3 posts per day, you will be entered into a drawing for cash and software prizes. I thought that this would help improve my traffic and registrations. The contest is starting tomorrow, and I wanted to know if you think this will pay off in the long run. Thanks.

Nice idea but I think if you make it a bit more of a competition like person with the most posts in a week wins, rather than a draw because you will get folk doing three posts to be in the draw then never coming back.

It would be really successful if the site wasn't down.

Seriously, it's down right now, but sounds like a great idea. I agree that there should be other requirements like length of membership etc...to produce longevity of your members.

My contest

I hope I'm not out of line by sharing the contest we have on our site with you here. We are trying to come up with a contest to increase traffic on our forums but this one is kind of a fun contest, not to hard. If you enter at this point I'd say your chances of winning are pretty good as we have just started it.

If you click this guy, on the page, it explains what to do. This seems like a good time to say thanks to Misfit Toys for providing our first prize.

The problem with many contests geared towards driving users to a forum seems to be that it promotes only more post, but does not address the quality of the posts. It seems like it's more important to get quality posts, not just quantity. Any ideas on how to accomplish that?

I belonged to a forum once that sent 1 cent per posting at the end of the month to your PayPal account for every post you made. They had a lot of people posting.

I like your idea.
