Building Site Traffic - what can be done?

Don’t know about others, but launching a website with minimum budget for marketing, I find myself trying to identify various ways to gain free PR. The question is – How can you get free PR and raise traffic to the site?

Here are my thoughts so far:
1) Cross-linking with relevant sites
2) Cross-linking with high ranked sites
3) Find local online newsgroups, societies, etc and advertise (if free)
4) Find local print, where free announcements can be posted and post one about the website launch
5) Traffic Exchange sites
6) Find UK wide blogs, chats, etc and promote the site
7) E-mail marketing campaign
Forums postings
9) Press releases (submit to as many publications as possible)

Any other suggestions??? Hope the list can grow

Also, if there are any suggestions relating cpecifically to my site DealsLocally.Com, please post these also.

Nice list you got there. Usefull things in it.

However I think that advertising in this part of the forum is not allowed. I could be wrong though.

- Submit articles.
- Submit to blogs.
- SEO for search engine traffic.
- Add a bookmark button on your site for repeat visitors.

I can't think of anything else quite frankly. Submitting articles is a great way to do it, if you ask me. That and forum and blog comment links, are what drives most of my traffic right now.

Ive been told that Tagging on del.icio.us can be very helpful in this area.
Though i must admit im pretty much a novice so im only repeating what ive heard.
I have started but only recently so will have to wait for results.

You should do the following:-
Submit to article directories
Submit to link directories
Add links in your forum signatures
Do 3 way link exchanges
Make a blog, and keep pinging.

- if you have an ebay shop, you can put link to your website
- free ebook can help you, there are many website that can accept to put a free ebook (it can be 5-7 articles with helpfully case studies please don't write a novel)
- myspace you can build a website and point it to your website or from comment of yours to your website.

I've seen some very inventive ways that people are getting high PR
backlinks. Here's a cracker.

Have a software tool created for your site - it could be something
really useful and unique, or it could be as simple as a small application
with a web browser embedded that automatically goes to your site.

Now submit that program to the hundreds of software directories
that are out there - most with PR6+

When you make a blog post, you should ping to all the sites, this makes them aware that your site has new and fresh content, and calls the search engines to crawl your site.

In addition to pinging, you can also submit your blog to social bookmarking sites to get more visitors.

Writing articles has been mentioned already but is possibly the best
way to build traffic and pr ranking. Blogging can and will do the same.

Add content and MORE content to your site.
Of course "relative" content with good keywords

When you say blogging, what exactly is meant? Should I get my own blog and write there? Or do you mean writting in some else's blog?
