proxy website and traffic?

Why do proxy websites get so much traffic.. i read a post were a dude started a proxy site and started getting 400 UV's a day within 15 days of launch... either he was telling a lie or am i missing something here..

Anyone care to explain?

Well...people love to hide themselves (for some obvious and some not so obvious reasons)!..so they love to surf via proxy,

Besides..some of the social networking sites..such as orkut.com, etc....are often banned in Universities..offices etc...since students waste a lot of time on it.

However, such sites can be accessed using a proxy site. Thus th popularity of a proxy site!

All the famous proxy sites...are also banned by the network administrators of univ/offices....so each time a new site comes up..word spreads and it gets popular!

i get your point.. but the proxy site is good till it gets banned so in all it has a short life span

Yes thats true..but most proxy site admins are clever...they generally tell the users to let them know if they are banned in thr univ etc...so they can provide them with another link to thr site.

When tht gets banned..another link is provided...and the (vicious!) circle goes on n on!

Yes kindof. In that...they will provide you a different link (which i guess is hosted on thr frnds' domains.....

...cause say a site is proxyme.com.....it becomes something.com/proxy/proxyme
