Money That Earns More Money...

... I'm talking about "viral", of course.

Do you use viral methods for building traffic or making sales?

By viral I mean products or content that encourages the user to
spread the word himself, with or without an incentive.

Some basic examples are short, cheap eBooks sold with master
resale rights on eBay, 100% affiliate commissions and pay per
lead freebies (a la Death Of AdSense).

You don't think would help with what? The Death Of Adsense report was
downloaded tens of thousands of times. Another example was the Diet
Coke and Mentoes video that reportedly made $30,000 from video ads
appended to the short clip.

Viral definitely helps

Ya they are nice examples but there are many who loose more than they gain..
It requires commitment and work.

WillB, did that work for you? I've never heard of any real success with viral marketing, but maybe you are right. Any proofs?

MSN messenger is prove enough I guess. I could list a couple of pages with more examples, but I think this one is enough.

Proof? I don't understand.. viral marketing is not some myth or theory,
it is a marketing technique like cold calling that people are putting into
practice every day.

Anytime you are invited to tell your friends about a site, service or even
product, you are engaging in a viral mechanism. For example, almost all
of the social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace etc) will let you type
in your HotMail address and will then auto-invite your buddy list to the
site.

I haven't had any huge successes yet, but if you haven't heard of the
$7 Secrets product that is doing the rounds, I suggest you search for it.
A wonderful example of viral marketing at its best.

MSN messenger is viral?

I thought it was installed by default on Windows XP and harrased you via the yellow speech bubble until you signed up for an account? Nothing word of mouth about that.
