Adding your signature to your forum posts could be considered spam. If you only goal from posting is to "Get Your Brand Out There". However, if you are actually engaged in meaningful dialog with other users of the forum and have proven your commitment to that community, then why not be able to advertise your services. You would be a respected member of that community who has proven their reliability and their expertise.
I would rather use the services of a contributing member of this forum, over some one how has only posted a handful of times, but made sure to link to their product or website over and over again.
I haven't added a signature. Mostly because I want to have a good clean unbiased reputation. I decided this even before John put a limit on signatures. I don't plan on adding one until I have made over 700 quality posts or John makes me a Mentor.

They may not know if it was a bot or a human. But when they see that first ad I'm sure their first thought isn't "woo, that's so cool thanks for marketing on my profile with asking me. That's really nice of you." Some people may visit and may be impressed. But the vast majority with loath you for the SPAMMER you are. On top of that they will associate that with the product and your clients. I'm sure the 1:1000 click through ratio theory wouldn't apply for this type of campaign. It would be more like 1:100,000.

Furthermore, if you have a myspace account, you are totally opening yourself up to receive random emails from people you have never met before. Thats one of the beauties of the whole MySpace concept.

The beauty of the MySpace concept, is that it lets PEOPLE meet PEOPLE. Not some guy to con you into looking at some crappy service or product. How many of these new friends are you going to befriend? None?

2. Its not the only route, its 1 of thousands of ways to market anything on the web.

Then why not use another less evil route? Why not use ethical more widely accepted and supported forms of advertising and marketing? Those more ethical ways tend to have a better impact on positive recognition and persuasion. But I'm now sure that most of these concepts of professional marketing are lost on you and those who choose to follow the same route as you.
