yahoo directory
Hi all,
I'm having trouble getting traffic to my site. i am constantly building my backlinks, and have just started to submit some articles but my traffic is not improving at all at the moment. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the yahoo directory is a good investment to bring traffic to my site. It costs $299 which is quite expensive if it doesn't bring extra traffic. Please can anyone advise me on this.

Why not try other free directories first? The Open Directory, for one...
And it could really take some time to generate increasing traffic to your site. 3 months wasn't enough for mine, but it's slowly doing good. Just keep upi with those backlinks and submissions.

Ok. Before you get any traffic I would suggest working on your text and site. The site is very hard to read right now as all the text appears centered in a block quote.

$299 with no guarantee that your site will be listed.

Yes, it doesnt bring much traffic but it may boost your rankings in G and Y because it is considered a high quality link. So technically, having that link in the directory does bring traffic.

Yeah your right Kevin, but I would rather spend the $300 on GoGuides - Aviva - v7n - Alive - SevenSeek - UmDum & then DMOZ and still have some extra cash for Sushi.
IMO the Yahoo directory is over rated and over priced. I do have several websites listed there, some listed for free and a couple corporate paid sites. But like I said if it was my money....
Foshan if your not getting enough traffic I would suggest focusing on getting ranked for the words that will yield you tons of traffic without ppc. If you need instant cash and don't want to deal with the Sandbox try Adwords.
Here's a good list of the Strongest Directories

Reason: I wanted to include the link to the list so you could see the extra options beyond the Yahoo Directory

If higher rankings in Yahoo is important to you, then submitting to their directory should help you with that..... I have seen enough proof to say that a Yahoo directory listing definetly helps your ranking in Yahoo..... I can't say wether it will help you with traffic or any other way, but as far as your rankings in Yahoo search, it will help.

Why not save $ 250 and submit to MSBC Microsoft Small Business Directory?

articles?
Invest money into content. They're necessary for any quality traffic. I invested a lot of money into translations, articles writing and yeah, it works . . Without any huge effort I started getting traffic from France and French speaking countries immediatelly. Articles were translated from EN->FR. Of course, English content is more competitive, but it's possible to make a break-thru. My ROI is about 3 months .

Quality content should be your number one concern. Your content should encourage linking from other bloggers which will increase your traffic as well as page rank.
Another idea is to provide something for free that people will want to come to your website to get. I and several others on this forum create WordPress templates. Next month I'll be offering Blogger beta templates. You could offer some kind of guide or useful script.
Another avenue of self promotion that I don't think people explore fully is guest blogging. Find another blog looking for content and offer to write a post.
And last but not least get involved in the blogosphere. Get to know people, leave comments.
I wrote an article a little bit ago about traffic building which I plan to revise soon but you are welcome to read it and take from it what may be useful to you.

I don't know if $299 is expensive? The important point is how much traffic you are getting to your site.
Don't waste money on sites that send you useless traffic that never result in any sales. The best way to improve traffic to your site is with SEO and adding appropriate content rich web pages.

For your kind information these fees are recurring, also consider to read Yahoo policy concerning to their paid submissions before you pay them.

Hi Foshan!
I am new here, but not new on the Net. I have two sites in the Yahoo directory, neither of them get traffic from the yahoo serps.
Both sites have over 50 + keyword pages with SOE and they get no traffic from yahoo search.
The one has a nice directory listing with about 30 hits a day from the yahoo directory listing. But the other was stuck 6 levels down and do not even get traffic from the directory itself. You have n control as to where the listing will e placed in the directory.
Paid $299 for each.
However, the link back may give you some clout with Google. It "may" give you a boost, only if you are listed on a good page in the directory.
But my honest opinion. Don't do it....
The number one reason : you do not have control over were in thedirectory they place it. THEY decide.
Two: It "seems" that if your site is in the directory, you will never get traffic from yahoo serps
There are bette ways to get traffic. Yahoo directory is not worth it.

Its so insanely expensive I would maybe wait until your site is bringing in enough revenue to pay for a link like that.
It'll probably only be then that you need a yahoo directory link to compete with your high ranking competitors.
