I am a platinum level member at PRWeb. You can see my profile and many of my releases at
http://www.prweb.com/firm/prf3186.htm. I have distributed releases at various levels from free (when they used to have it) to 200.00 plus. My advice is to go with the $80.00 level.
What my clients and I have found over time is that most results are virtually the same. For example, in looking at my stats on reads I have one release at $40.00 that to date has had 84,496 reads while another release at the $200.00 level has 71,737. The higher numbered one was released June of last year and the lower number in May so it's not just that one has been around longer.
Having said the above, it does depend to a certain extent on what your goals are. If you feel you really need anchor text links, you'll have to pay more for that at PRWeb. Your chance of more reads might improve if you pay more because you can submit it to more of their industry feeds, but in reality there are much bigger factors at play than the number of feeds you can submit to.
In my opinion, the number one factor for how well your press release will do is how well it is written. You must write good seo copy and you need to have a compelling story if you want people to read it. That's not to say you shouldn't do a press release if you don't have a compelling story. I've helped clients open new sites that gained PR4 and even PR5 within weeks of opening their doors largely on the back of serious press release campaigns.
I hope this helps you make the decision on what level to distribute your next release at.
