Best practice is to put your ads embedded within your content in order to maximize CTR. Right now you have them all in your sidebars, where most visitors will just ignore them.

With only 30 unique visitors per day, it's hard to make any sales at all. You can be in "business" only if you get targeted visitors. Some keywords provide good sales, other keywords are just for traffic. There is a definite line between them.

where are the visitors from?

Are your ads relevant or off topic?

Do you offer your own products or just affiliate stuff ?

You could get more targeted visitors if you join online communities like mybloglog (they have very strict anti-spamming rules, so be careful how you contact the members), spicypage, fuelmyblog, the good blogs and so on.

You should concentrate on increasing the number of your visitors. Also, play around with your ad placements to see if which one converts best.

Don’t feel bad, I’m getting about 125 unique visitors a day and sometimes go several days without a sale. Then for some reason in 1 day I get hammered with sales. Is this normal on the net? I’m still pretty new to the whole eCommerce thing. I think my traffic is pretty targeted; I’m getting an average of 9 page views per visitor? Any ideas as to why my sales are so hit and miss?

Ian, I'll give you 2 suggestions 1. either you make your category links black coloured. 2. swap position of your category and ads. see what happens.

so put one of the ads above category and make the category links all black?
well it is css style so if I change the color of those links all links will be black? and I am using a CMS as well so each category link is created by default and not a true html

Yeah, you need way more than 30 unique. I get between 500-900 unique a day w/ about 3-10 clicks a day. Like someone said, blend in the ads with the content, it works.

Hi Ian,

I can suggest two things.

1) 30 visitors a day is not enough to really tell how well it will work, you need to ramp this up.

2) When I advertise, I don't send people to a blog or web page, I send them to a landing page with a unique offer. This has better results in converting a visitor to a customer than a general site with multiple topics. Here is an example of one I am running now. www.freetrafficforlife.com

When promoting a blog, these techniques can work well:

1. Ping blog directories using services like Pingomatic
2. Place copies of your articles in article directories
3. Participate in traffic exchanges
4. Find something newsworthy about what you do and send out a press release using PRWeb.

I do all of the stated except press releases....what are they? I have read about them but I have not found no interest in them, unless I am issing an important factor?
