I'm gonna attack the original topic of this thread. Maybe I'm still not too familiar with the concept, but what exactly is "selling your signature" entail to? Is it like saying placing a link on someone else' site?

It literally refers to selling your signature space. In other words; someone pays you to have their link in your signature.

Yup. Generally considered in bad form; banned on pretty much every forum on the planet; and very difficult to check. The last bit is why many forums outlaw links in signatures altogether.

Ic, so basically the link beneath your signature. Sounds like a stupid concept, does it work at all?

hello friends

As we all know the importance of Traffic in SEO and Signatures generate traffic.
But in business point of view Signature Traffic is 99% useless. They don't generate client for business. This is because Maximum people uses signature have the knowledge of SEO and the person who will click on signature 99 % will not be potential Client.

If so Signature can be useful in Email Marketing and proposal.

wbuy, I can see where you are coming from. If it is a reputable business web site I would think more toward your type of route. However if the web site is still new in the market and you just need the word around, it might not be a bad idea to look into.

I've never bought nor sold a signature, but from an SEO perspective I can see how having lots of incoming links ups a site's Google PR which affects the SERP positioning of a site.

I guess the answer about whether or not that has value depends on what you want for your site.

Personally, I think they're spammy and wouldn't want to be associated with it.

Back signature links;
They've been apart of my marketing strategy. I do get traffic from V7N, although I'm not here for that. I've gotten more out of the community than links or traffic. However, on other forums you may want to try it to boost your exposure. My IBLS are now coming from:

40% forum links
25% directory submitions (free)
25% article posting isnare, ezines etc..
and the other 10% between link exchanges ( I'm losing faith in them), and purchasing links (works better, but more expensive.)

Good luck.

Good call, I tend to think being active in forums is a better strategy to obtain natural traffic. Going back to Hostingpuppy, I agree with you about the spam. Once you are associated as one of them, that negative tag on your site never goes away.

Skipping that BS essay....

I have links for my sites in there. It was so much easier here when I only had two blogs. Now I have to pick and I don't like that.

I'm not going to say that I would never sell my signature space because I could get some amazing offer. Hell, if someone wants to pay me (what I would consider) some crazy amount then I'll do it. But I'm not looking for the opportunity.

And I'm not really wanting someone else to have my link in their space either. I'd worry too much about the kind of image that they have.

Today, when I used the link command in Google for my website, Google only returned two lousy links out of about 300 actual links out there. None of them were from V7N. Does that mean that Google isn't even counting my links at V7N? MSN didn't return my V7N links either. Yahoo returned them but put them way in the back. Is the order of appearance significant?

I frequent a number of forums and have found adding my signature helpful in getting traffic and business for my different sites. I have never purchased anyone's signature, though...
