Any Good Copywriting Tips?

Mine: Keep it short, make the point clearly and in a few words as possible. Internet consumers have an extremely short attention span.

What tips have you got?

I bold the selling points of the page.

The point that states exactly what we are going to accomplish for them.

Good point, there. I think short paragraphs also help. People get overwhelmed when they are confronted with huge blocks of text.

Short paragraphs do keep people engaged.

-Bulleted paragraphs break down important points as well.
-An occasional number list works

Copywriting is just a huge subject, perhaps even larger than the almighty SEO.

But there is one tip that allows you to improve your copy quite easily: test it! Do a/b/c split testing and see what works, there's really no other way to know for sure. Only your customers know what they want to hear.

John has a good point on writing short. Now the copy itself doesn't have to be short, people will read it if it is interesting. But you should always use short and simple sentences. And avoid using too fancy words for the general public, especially if your target audience is international.

Bullet point lists are great. Talking about benefits and not the features usually works. As do customer testimonials. Being personal and telling them your story works for many types of visitors. Backing up your claims works. Having a real guarantee works, too.

These are just the few first things that came to my mind. If someone is interested to hear my opinion on their copies, post it to the Website critique section and I would love to take a look.

use humor and engage the reader with examples/exercises. Like .. if you pick up a cup, hold it close to your nose you will see a dollar sign in the cup .. or .. did you notice last time you visited..etc

- Open up with the best headline. People will read the longest sales letter if the headline is interesting enough.

- use the P.S and the P.P.S and such, a lot of people just scroll down to read them.

- Good risk reversal that can be seen easily

- always put your name on the page. A picture of yourself (not a stock photo) also helps

- Focus on the benefits not the features

Avoid fluffy, or overly ambitious claims. Keep all facts on evidence based only.
As soon as I see "best", "only place on the market", I feel a loss of credibility of the article as being less informative (value added) and more promotional.

I use the inverted pyramid style: I start with a teaser, which summarizes the main idea of the article and makes the reader wonder on the how and the why.

Good copyrighting is essential to have a successful internet website.
The first step is to know your target audience. Don't assume that every member of your target market is the same. People in different demographics think and feel differently and it is important that you communicate with them on their level. Therefore, it is important to do a little research to get a better understanding of your target market. You can then start to think like the prospect rather than the marketer.

long vs short

the thing is about short text it loses its persuasion, and quality, but then again people don't like to set down and read something that is 5 paragraphs long unless its very interesting.

Just a tip from what my article writer was saying she has written two books, and does several articles for me and other seo companies.
