Couldn't agree more.
I'll say, create a cool site, add some cool content, find each and every low, medium and high traffic social networks, create your profiles on each of 'em and spend sometime being social. Don't forget to include your website link on your profiles with a nice, witty description.
If you do social networking properly, it'll do miracles for you. For the people talking about PPC, I don't think it's a good medium for low to mid-sized businesses. If you have lots of money, go for it. It'll certainly work but maybe I'm the only person who thinks that PPC *wastes* lots of money.
