Yes, affiliate programs do work.

Of course, you should join programs that complement your site content. And the only way you can effortlessly provide site content is if you're passionate about your site subject.

Continuously add new content to your site while at the same time, conduct an effective marketing campaign, and you'll gain a steady stream of visitors. And more visitors potentially mean more sales from your affiliate program.

Mart's on the ball.

Amazon sucks, although they have made some recent changes so it may have improved a little. Google Adsense has earned people some money, but if that's all the you're doing then you're missing out on 99% of other affiliate opportunities.

Affiliate programs work - if you aren't earning money from them then it's YOU that is doing something wrong or ineffective.

If you want ideas then post a url.

Most of my affiliates are on one page:

http://www.webservertimes.com/Contact/partners.html

I've matched the affiliate prograns with the content, but so far only the Google ads have paid off. (On the other hand, this site's been up for only a few months.)

Isn't it true that the people that make the most money with affiliate programs, do it by creating sites that promote the program, not addind programs to their site?

Finding a program that compliments your site is a great idea to add a few bucks, but if you want to make money, you need more than a few sales.

If you find a niche and a product that that niche wants, create a site(or more) that introduces that product to that niche.
Then, do it again with another one, and another one, etc.

That is how the big boys do it.

just my 1.5 cents,
robert

I agree with Martin, starting with something you know or are passionate about can help you stay interested until the money kicks in.

I know many affiliates that are making over 10K a month and represent several affiliate programs that cut individual affiliate checks for $8-10K a month on a regular basis.

It is however lots of work and takes lots of SEO talent to be successful. 90% of affiliates just add a few banners and hope to make money, yet most make less than 500 a month this way. Some of the affiliates I know who are making lots of money are building multiple datafeed sites with thousands of products per site. It sounds like a daunting task but once you learn to use datafeeds and have the right tools it can be done quite easily.

Also try your best to pick merchants that are parasite-free, so you don't waste effort driving traffic to a merchant who allows another affilaite to over write your cookies and steal your commission. All of my merchants are parasite free and most of the merchants at ABW that have affiliate forums or post on a regular basis are honest and parasite-free also.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
