Promoting guide - A noob perspective

Hi, I been learning a lot from this forum and other webmaster related forums which in a way help me and my site get up and running.

To say thank you to v7n I decide to write up this a article on building links. It some basic stuff but than again I am not a pro

1. Web Directories
First thing I learn is to submit my site to web directories. It won’t help you get traffic directly but it helps with you link building effort. Since I am always broke, I will list free quality web directories. Though you have to wait around 1 – 4 months before your site is approve, if you have the budget and need a quick fix go with paid directories.

2. Article Submissions
Article directories gives you both backlinks plus traffic. I always find after you article is approve, you will get a burst of traffic though it will die down in a few hours some a few days. Just pay an extra attention to your anchor text, since it really matters! Here’s a list of article directories:

3. Press Release Submission
Press release are almost identical to article directories, though in my opinion it’s a little tougher to get your press release to be approve. I don’t know, I have yet mastered the art of writing a good press release 

4. Social Networking / Social Group Sites
Participating in social groups are one of the fun things to do while doing your backlinks. It gives you huge traffic plus the backlinks of course.

5. Getting link from .org , .gov and .edu sites
Having your site link from a .gov and .edu site are a gems. Though I have yet get any of my site link from such site. One thing you could do is by commenting on blogs with .edu domains. I have yet find any .gov site to place my links. Oh yeah, just make sure you do not spam.

6. Social Bookmarking Site Submission
Social Bookmarking sites are all the rage nowadays. Though it’s tough for people to bookmark your site. Most would just press ctrl + d! You can always put up those bookmark widget on your site to ease the process. One such widget I find usefull is from addthis.com

7. Offering Free Stuff
Well who would not love Free stuff. Even big companies use this tactic. Just look at SUN and their open office projects. It created the buzz for them! There are a lot of stuff you can giveaways for Free, such as e-books, website templates, scripts or even advices. People will always have a go when they see the magic word “FREE”.



Conclusion
The above technique works, but you have to be patient. Don’t expect your site to hit Top 10 in SE after just a day or even weeks. Building your site is the easy part, promoting it is the hard part For the best result, mix all these techniques and you will have a winner. I hope this article helps but if I made some mistake do tell me since like I say am not a pro, still learning.
