Need marketing advises and help

Hi guys

I've created pretty nice and useful service (at least I think so) - www.votingserver.com and I need your advise how to better market and promote the website. I'm very skilled in programming and totally newbie in marketing. Please can anybody help me?

Brief description of web site is below:

Voting Server website provides set of miniature web objects (also know as gadgets) that you can copy & paste into your own webpages. You can greatly improve your sites with our services: add voting feature by Voting Poll or Send-To-Friend service for sending page's content by email. Adding Voting Server services to your webpages can make your site even more friendly, interesting and useful to your visitors and keep them coming back. You don't need to install anything to your server.

Well it depends, whether you want to avail free marketing or the paid one. Can go for signature links in forums, article submission, free directories submission etc as free and paid directories, buying links at strong sites as paid. You can also add blog to your site and write content that best suits your product.

This is what a general marketing criteria is, but all it depends on your targets, i.e. till what extent you want to market the product/service or what result you're expecting and then formulate strategies in accordance with your vision.

Thanks for your responses. I believe my tool could be really popular and can bring real profit even if every particular service will be pretty cheap.
But I need to know the best start point.

Honestly, marketing is something I like to understand - but I'm engineer... It looks to be hard for me.

BTW, what is PPD? (i'm totally lame in marketing and was unable to find something about in google).

You better start reading about internet marketing google the term and you'll find thousands of results. Also visit ezines and internet marketing blogs, and read there. But as I mentioned earlier, better add a blog to your site and write about each and every feature of your tool (not in a single post). Take this initial step and you'll be on the way to learn more and more.

Dear Qurratulain - yes, I've read articles about of course. And even more - I've worked (as developer) for guys who positioned themself as very successful (but not sure they were so actually).
Also, I don't see the sense to open blog at website which wouldn't be reached initially...

Really, I appreciate your assistance - but it's really too generic answers.
Probably partnership could make my offer more attractive? I.e. if instread of just affiliat I could offer better relationships? Do you think it could be better?
Guys, you really know more about this stuff - please teach me!
