Video Marketing i.e. Youtube

I have gone through a number of threads now about what different webmaster's are doing for marketing and and promoting their respective websites. I have not seen too many suggestions and/or comments about using sites like YouTube for marketing. As a result, I am quite curious as to why there are fewer suggestions being made for using the "youtube/video upload" method.

Off the top of my head I can think of a few reasons:

-Don't have the resources
-Don't know how to use software
-Doesn't relate to a respective business/website/etc

I can see someone using a video blog or something similar to try for marketing, but what are some of the complications with using that method?

I have one website that has generated a bit of traffic in my niche, but I'm just now advancing my plans & knowledge from my current site to create a new website.

Any thoughts and information would be greatly appreciated. I currently use Youtube to promote my current website, but it definitely revolves around the content of my site so it helps.

Did you see the comments of the users in Youtube, most of the comments are useless or spam. I don't think it greatly help to travel your content unless you've something like this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0b...page=1&t=a&f=b

I've done it in the past and even contracted out some work(create viral videos) and get them uploaded. The problem was unless the video received a TON of traffic, it was almost pointless. What I found was that it brought some traffic, but was not targeted, because it's hard to get a 'VIRAL' video that pertains to a certain niche.

The topics that go over well on YouTube are hard to carve out and create a useful traffic stream that converts. The cost was more than the benefit for me.

i dont use them because 1, you need high quality adverts/videos so you dont look like an amature. 2 if your video looks remotely like an advert, most people click off it, so you need to make it funny, and 3, you cant do a link back from it. somebody still has to see your url and then has to go and type it into a browser if they want to look further

To gain traffic from youtube require a very good video. If you're interested to start one and doesn't have enough skill, you could hire someone to do it for you. I'm not sure whether youtube will delete video on marketing (because they seems to delete a lot of video from time to time) but it's worth a try.

Here's an idea for using YouTube

Look for vids that have high viewer count and are related to what you want to advertise.

Offer to purchase the youtube account from the account holder for a nominal fee.

Redirect the traffic to your site.

I wanted to bump this back up to the top because I've been researching it a bit more. Kevin Nalty released this free book that I read after it was posted on Techcrunch earlier this week.

Some may find it useful, others not so much. I'll provide my own information after I release more videos (currently at 17). Anyway I hope this information helps some interested in viral video marketing.
