Making money with a free site
I was wondering,
when you surf the internet you often come across sites that promote products that are not theirs. They get a commision from an affiliate network when they can sell a product through their website.
Are there any webmasters here that have experience in that? Is it really worth trying?
I must say that I don't believe that visitors buy goods because they have seen a banner on your site.
I would really like to have replies from people who have experience in this sort of programs.

I don't know about many but I have backed away from the total amount of affiliate programs that I belong to from the time I started. Currently on my websites as a whol I find that Google Adsense Ads are more profitable solution over random affiliate advertising How ever there are always times where large numbers of affilate programs may be successful such as building a directory. Other situations that I use an affiliate program is to market a product not my own is to advertise in conjunction to the product that I am trying to sell or offer.
Hope that helps

I would really like to know what payment rate you get with AdSense. Not that I meet the conditions to join, but I'm just curious.

Hi,
I think that I have some experiences using affiliate programs, as I'm planning on making my living of these programs within a few months. I have just started doing this fulltime in September, but so far, I'm very satisfied. In total, I have been in the affiliate industry for over 3 years now, which is not as long as others have been, but still not bad.
I actually build sites that focus totally on promoting a product and giving advice and information about the product. I always list at least 2 different retailers to the potential customer, so that they can buy at the one they like more, and I still get my commission.
With regard to payments: I have always been paid so far. I always do some significant research on the programs, so that I know that I can trust them. Once I had a problem where a company didn't reply to my emails, because they still owed me $400. But after about 3 weeks, I got the money and they actually asked me for more exposure (a gambling site), but because they didn't pay me right away, I took them off directly.
If you want to get more information on how I do it with promoting the affiliate programs, etc, let me know what you want to know. I will try to help as much as possible.

Dragoneye, Adsense pay different amoutns depending on the number of clicks, but 1 click on its own is 10Cents. 10 clicks could be $2.50

The amount per click really depends on the industry, and how much people bid in that particular industry. A good reference good be the bids at overture.com. if people bid a lot of money there, you will also get a lot more money with adsense on the per click basis. but if the top bid at overture is like 10 cents, you will not make very much per click with adsense. But the clickthrough rates are pretty good with adsense and so far, I had good experiences with them on my sites (only got approved a few days ago though).

DragonEye,
Affiliate programs do work if you promote them/use them in the right way.
If you are trying to sell something from an affiliate program on your site, it would probably be best to sign up with an affiliate program where you can integrate their products into your own site, so that they look like yours. For example, Using someone like Amazon would be a good merchant to use for intergrating their products into your site.

Affiliate programs and FREE affiliate programs do work if you know the ins and outs of promoting. I have been involved in affiliate programs for over 5 years and I love it.
Good luck!
