Social media marketing-SEO benefits?

Hi, I was wandering about SEO power of social bookmarks advertising. I have few questions:

1. Links to main url would have better SEO benefits than links to inside pages, but they get less stumbles, diggs or whatever. Still link to inner pages do help in overall results.

What is your optimal strategy for this? 50/50 for main url/inner page?

2. Do links in types of sites like myspace where you have to register get indexed and show up in some SE?

I guess they allow Googlebot to skip registartion but not sure how many of them really do this (I speak about new websites, less serious than myspace).

I am thinking of going with del.icio.us and clones and skip myspace ones.

Thank you for your time, Marko

1.) Depends on the keyword you are targeting at the time. I've found it works in my overall scheme, with trying to nail long tail keywords, and just generating extra traffic.

2.) Not really, especially with MySpace. MySpace has adapted a redirect for any link posted, so SEO effect = 0, but traffic is still nice. I'm not sure if other SB places are doing this yet or not, but I imagine they will follow suit.

I think it is less to do with SEO, however good for traffic and for gaining popularity.
