Has anyone done Press Release and has it been useful?

Hi,

I was wondering if either of you done a Press Release, and if it's been any good to you?

Also, on what PR resources you recommend the most. FREE vs. PAID.

I imagine it's very variable depending on what your niche is. The only real way to find out is to give it a shot. Please report back when you do, as I'm curious too.

Valuable if done correctly. You will want to write a press release that induces spin off articles and will want to submit it to a newswire that allows embedded text links. The better news distribution services cost money.

Personally, I have not. But one of the companies that I work for (Automated Outlet) has done numerous press releases. I believe in all of them the news came to them and asked for a release. They have had huge success with these. This may be a little different than your case though because most of Automated Outlet's releases have been because they have signed as an exclusive distributor of a a certain product line.

After the press release has been submitted to several news distribution services then the search engines would crawl these websites and find your link to your website and consider your website as a genuine website. When the search engines crawl several of those news distribution services and find those several one way content rich one way inbound links to your website your search engine ranking moves up. You would see almost immediate results in Yahoo & MSN but Google takes a little longer to show up the results but it would for sure.

Anyone has idea - how much it costs to place such news ? I am guessing it is around $150 - is it correct ?

Actually, if you use a service like PR.com
you can get really great coverage for your
release for free.

They do have paid options, as well; but
their free service has always managed to
get me great results.

Don't limit yourself to online PR, though. If
you can come up with a really newsworthy
release, you can submit it to national publications
and most of them will print it for free.

You can also post PR on Craigslist, in the "News"
sections.
