Need marketing ideas
Hey guys,
I need some marketing ideas for my new site. Its a site that allows you to make and send free ringtones, wallpapers, and videos right to your phone. Its all 100% free too. Like seriously, its free.
I have a few good ideas- facebook, adwords(only on specific keywords), buying banner space, myspace comments, and youtube.
But I really need some more ideas.
Let me know if you've got anything that could help me out!
Thanks
Mike

Back when I had Adsense on my site, it used to display a lot of Ringtone ads (being a music oriented site). These got a fair few click thoughs but not a lot, but it is probably better to avoid this type becuase there are (as you may know) literally thousands of websites selling ringtones using those keywords. You'd be a needle in a haystack to find.
Alternativly, look for sites selling linkspace. Get backlinks this way to your site to increase link popularity in search engines, especially from relevant sites.
I'm sure others will chip in with their ideas too. Good luck all the same
I personally would recommend Text Link Ads: http://text-link-ads.com/ - Good for simple deployment of paid-for links, no messy javascript which can be blocked on a client, its just your link, you purchase a run on a site (variable prices, some are quite expensive though, most are not) followable by a search engine, so very good for buying backlinks.
Edit: just noticed TLA have an offer on too.

Have you considered advertising with StumbleUpon? I believe they charge $0.05 per page view (more info here). Even if you choose not to pay for advertising, you should still add your page to their network (it's free).
If you have a well written press release, you might try submitting it to some social bookmarking sites such as digg and reddit.
You could also try and contact some bloggers who might be interested in reviewing/introducing your service. If you have no one in mind, turn to a service like payperpost.com.

Thanks for the ideas, both of you!
I will check out TLA and I will also get a good press release written. I do have a question about the press release thing though. If I had one written, would I put it at mydomain/pressrelease and then link the digg article there, or? And can I submit those directly to news websites (magazines, etc.)
I'm going to check out PayPerPost right now.
Thanks for all your help.
Mike

yes, and that would probably be what you would want to submit to news sites, unless they specifically ask for something else.
You might try a few of these: KillerStartups, Go2Web2.0, Listio, Simple Spark, Feed My App

Have you considered Pay Per Click? It is a great way to bring increase traffic to your site. However, my suggestion is to hire a advertising management company to assist you for faster results. I tried managing my own marketing campaign and it worked; but, it was time consuming and did not give me the increased traffic I wanted more instantly. So, I decided to hire a marketing team ppcgeeks.net. I received the traffic I wanted and they handled everything.

Hi,
Do a research about related forums, blogs, social networking/bookmarking sites. Try creating some highly targeted "landing pages" for your keyowords. Use Squidoo.com, StumbleUpon, Magnolia, Digg.com, Reddit.com and various others. Try creating optimized articles of 400-500 words and start publishing them on article sites. Submit your site to quality good PR sites.
And there are various other ways.....
Thank you

let me guess, you're from ppcgeeks.com? I thought so lol
I always handle ppc myself, don't trust other people with the kind of money I spend in PPC.
Thanks Johnathan for that help, I totally forgot about social networking. Has anyone used myspace bulletins?
Thanks
Mike

If you have unique keywords you can end up on the first couple pages of Google without any marketing efforts.
However, I would suggest Stumbleupon, Sphinn, Entrecard and link exchanges.

Try getting backlinks by posting on forums and participating in social networking sites. If it's free, you might attract the casual visitor.

I would try targeting asian countries that really are fond of using cell phones. Look for active forums with similar niche and participate.
A little SEO (thru quality linkbuilding and keyword optimization), paid advertisements, forum participation will get your site targeted traffic

I'm in Japan... If you are going to target Asia, make sure your affiliate program works in Japan/Japanese (or whatever country you target).
For example, Google ads won't show ringtone product ads in Japan.

No need to pay -- just make some good SU-targeted content and it will go into the SU system for free...

im from Asia and there is a mobile site where a lot of people are visiting. Maybe you can try and advertise your site there. It's www.tipidcp.com
However, if you want to target more audience, try social media sites.
I will give you some sites that i am actually using. Check this thread:

Add a blog to it and post entries on social bookmarking sites.
Post in forums where there are kids and the type of people who buy that stuff. Add a colorful cool sig. This is the place to ask questions but not to promote consumer products.

Pay per click (PPC) like Adwords is a good idea if you want to promote your products online and if you want to generate revenue for your site. Adsense and Adsense Alternatives like Adrite can also help.
Social media site like Facebook and Myspace can also bring traffic if you invite more friends in visiting your products or your link.
Video marketing like using of Youtube is the best idea on which you can broadcast and promote your products through using of videos.
