Idea Review Please !

I am planning to build a site about rap music, but there are some points that not clear. You know, there is pretty much rap singers around, and my plan is making some mini fan site for rap music singers. For example, i will add news about rap music, but also create some seperate pages for popular rap singers for using as fan pages.

So here come question,

Should i make a rap music site, put news about rap music, and also create some pages for most popular rap singers named x y z w. So when fan of x singer search about it, he can find the site, also other singers' fans can find the page at same method. So totally there will be more traffic but it will be for all of those singers' fan pages.

OR

Should i just make a fan site for only rap singer x, so only visitors looking for fan pages about x can find the site. It will be less traffic than first one but there will be a main topic for the site not like the first option.

I guess first option means more traffic but i don't really know if fans will come to my site instead of going to those singers other fan sites, because probably at search results other fan sites will get better ranking because of the relevance of content.

But problem for second option is, if i want to make fan site for only singer x, probably there will be other fan sites for the same singer which will cause me not get much of traffic.

Go with the first one. You already pointed out all the faults with the second one (as far as traffic goes). And with the first one, if you make the "sub fan pages" (for lack of a better term), and do/have some decent SEO done, then you will be able to get the traffic from the people looking for just the "x" fan. I don't know if that's completely comprehensible, someone please put that into normal people words lol.

So if i understand correct

, making site using sub fan pages for multiple singers can bring me more traffic, if i have enough SEO done.

So i guess 1st option seems better

A good example of your first idea can be imdb.com which has reviews for movies and also has the database of all actors actresses etc.

You can do a similar thing for rappers, also including lyrics, downloads, wallpapers etc.

The first one sounds good. SEO wise, you can opt for more keywords (rappers name)

But also consider if you will be able to provide relevant info and content for all of them. You must have quality content to offer your visitors as they are the ones who will decide if your site will be a success or a flop.

Am down with the first one, it will show all the features of rap music and surfer will make that a better choice. sub fan club sounds inferior.

So i guess i will stick to my first idea, i will make a website, giving information about rap singers, information about their albums etc. and i am planning to add a community forum so their fans can tell ideas and opinions about singers.

Probably i will use Vbulletin as community software and i will stick to some free gallery script for adding galleries.

What should i use for main skeleton of the site? Something seo friendly, so i guess options are Joomla and what else? I thought giving a chance to mediawiki for main skeleton of the site but i never used it before so i don`t know how good is it.

And second question, should i use the content management system as skeleton of the site (showing news at the mainpage, artist and album information bla bla)

or

should i use the forum as skeleton of the site? I will just use a content management for displaying some news at the mainpage than i will add the artist information, album information and others to forums as new threads?

Which one sounds better?

I would suggest you opt for a website instead of a forum. Its a bit hard getting sign-ups and even more harder to have them participate.

A blog could also be an option.

Both ideas will limit you. Make a music site with a rap section. Hosting space is virtually free, learn about the long tail.

I just start to build site now, but i am unsure about a small point,

should i make artists page as, domain.com/artistname/, or artistname.domain.com

so should i make it as subfolder or subdomain?

plus, i am planning to install a forum also, and i am wondering if i should use forum or forums syntax, and also not sure about if i should also make it as subfolder or subdomain

You're going to have to compete with a multi-billion dollar industry.

Hang it up unless you're a pro and plan on making it a 18 hour a day full time job.
