Got Members - None Talking

Well my issue is this. i have a forum that is growing slowly and i am getting between 1 and 3 members a day. The problem is that none of these members are talking. i mean not even and introduction. and the old members have really stoped to.

How can i get people motivated to ACTUALLY talk not just post crap for money?

You'll need to kick start things yourself. Have numerous profile and talk to your self until people start to get involved. It's not easy starting a forum, but either you need to do it yourself, or get some others to give you a helping hand. You also need to make sure the topics in the forum are interesting enough for people to want to participate.

ok thats what i have been doing. i have several usernames of well me going and im trying to make the topics as interesting as possible.

the forums have a lot to do with seo and web design related topics but the problem is that i don't know that much about programming topics and coding ans all that plus i lack some knowledge in other parts of the forum.

thats whats hard. i need people who have that knowledge to help me out and i know of some members that do problem is they won't stay active unless im paying them

It may sound obvious, but you have to actually PAY to members to post at your forum. Best technique is to create a contest, say "get a free iPod for first 100 posts", and you will see how members come in and return back to post more. Some paid referrals are good too.

i did several contests. once they got paid i never heard from them again. blah and most of the post except for a selects few were literally "oh kool" and "wow"

Contest are good, but have it relate to the topic that your forum is about. Or make the winnings forum related or assistance related instead. By posting quality posts in relations to what you're good at, that's very important. It makes you more creditable, otherwise it'll be a tough one.

Invite some friends or relatives to help you in order for your forum to be active =)

Depending on your niche, advertise on the related sites. Then you can participate in other forums of the same niche and put your URL in your signature. New visitors will come in if you participate regularly and make intelligent, useful and helpful posts.

ok the problem is my site is very similar to this one and many other like this one. you probably know that marketing a forum on another forum besides a signature is well grounds for suspension.

plus marketing on sites like this are way out of my budget

There are a few services out there that will actually help you jumpstart your forum by posting interesting topics under several usernames for a predetermined amount of time. I've never used them. Perhaps someone else on this forum has.

hahah its funny that you would say that because originally computerbuddy.org was a forum posting service. so so so much work and not a good payoff turned me to just open a small community where people could sign up for free and reap the benefits. lol

i don't need a new forum niche i just need people with interesting things to say. as most people know it is hard to get people to post well interesting things or thought provoking questions let alone talk at all. im doing the best i can and im getting a little help but im really just trying to get people to see that im here
