Free File Hosting site - What do you think?
Hey everyone,
I just started up my free file hosting site www.FlyingUpload.com
Do you have any ideas on how I can promote it?
Preferably free.

i would target people who need such file hosting sites.
if you could redesign your front portal and make it look more professional, i'd love to put a link of your site on my forum. the growth of my forum relies on free file hosting sites.
how long does it take to upload a 100mb file to your site?

Well it does really depend on your upload speed, but the server is very fast.
I'd love a link from your forum. That would be great!

it's www.remix101.com
the basis is for DJs and music producers to upload their remixes of songs. of course, these files naturally come in 5mb or more. hence, they need a 3rd party hosting service. at the moment, i recommend people to yousendit, rapidshare or sendspace, etc.
inside the forum, people who love dance music or other DJs can download, listen and give feedback to their peer's work.
the site is only a month old, and i'm about to start marketing it heavily and doing a lot of cross-promotions with it.

I just had a look at the forum, it looks great! It really does.
I'll be having someone design the site when I get some money together. For now the basic theme looks okay.

there's nothing wrong with the basic theme. i like that it's simple. but you might reconsider the graphic header "flying upload." it looks like it was done on MS Paint.

Yeah I see what you mean. I just changed it to something else, I think that looks a little better. I'm not too worried about that though.

I like it, it's simple and easy to use which should be the main purpose. I am getting a little tired of Photo Bucket and all of the advertising that is poping up every where!

It's a saturated niche. Some heavy promoting is a must to see results, however the money is there. Good luck.

DJs, music producers, architects, engineers, college/high school students, pirates, photographers, graphic designers, videographers, etc.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've completely redone the design, added a login system to keep track of your files, added new upload options.
Everything runs a lot more smoothly. Enjoy!

hmmm...i would take out that adbrite banner ad from your front page. can you just make it a text ad? i'd be too embarrassed to click on your site from my work computer. someone might see the "No girlfriend? Read This." ad. LOL.

hahaha! Yeah, I can surely get that changed to something else. Banners seem to get the best CTR from general traffic though, so I don't want to change it to text.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Make it an exclusive uploader then join forums and offer to host images/uploads only from their websites. After you get a decent number of popular forums using your uploader you will begin to gain popularity and can take it from there.

bluecircle suggested exactly what i was talking about. this is the same way paypal became successful. they saw a need and latched onto ebay and their service just took off from there.
my forum needs a file uploading service to survive. so does other websites like mine. i would target those types of site initially. you should hit up myspace music profiles.
the first thing you should do is continuously improve your site's graphics. i think that is where you are lacking the most.

When there are many free file hosting service, why a popular forum owner want to use service offered a a little known new site to its users ?
I have a forum where users share file downloads, users share files from all kind of free file hosting services. I think its better than depending on a single file hosting service.
