Traffic but no result

hello,
I started a directory site about a month ago and been getting a decent traffics (ave. 20 unique hits/day), however, i am not getting enough url submission for some reason (ave. 1 submission every 2 days).

I would definitely appreciate your input on how I should promote the site such as the one in my sig below.

Thanks

I would suggest more content, and you need to drive more traffic, give the advertiser(s) some sort of incentive for signing up..i'd say free sign up for a month..or 3 months at least..that way you could fill up your directory, and consumers would find it more useful.

You may also want to find a forum where canadian webmasters hang and let them know what you are trying to accomplish, and how it will provide visibility to their clients. You may want to get into an autosubmitter program early (I don't know how much I'd like this idea) but if you wnat to grow quick...this could be the way to do it.

Site Review

Hi

Well you have the same problem in a way that my site has (uptil now - still under development though  ), and that is boring content. I empathise with you on that cos it sure is hard to make such a site interesting to visitors. You are dealing with so many links which makes for so much damn work to do. Comparing your site to mine i can fall back on my computer technology background to provide content which will help a great deal. Have you a skill where you can offer advice? If not then you will need to advertise all the bargain offers in an attractive way. You must be getting loads of emails if all those links are Affiliation ones? Wish you all the best as you and i have picked a very demanding subject matter to deal with .

I think the biggest issue is that it is for .ca domains only. There are a tonne of Canadian sites (I have 4 myself) which are geared just to Canadians but are .com's. The domain extension means nothing to the average person, and you are missing out on a mass amount of people who have Canadian sites but are not .ca's

I am offering free submission for my directory and will not charge a cent for submitting urls . But i totally agree with your suggestion to adding more content for the site. thanks.

Good suggestion, but where to find Canadian webmaster hang outs?

MKJ
Agree with you, boring content, lol. Well, i always believe it will get better in 10 years if i insist. Wish you all the best too.

You are right, there are tons of canadian sites but how many of those are actually 100% Canadian targeted? How many of those that we know are canadian sites with dot com domain? How many successful Canadian dot ca sites out there that you can count (eBay.ca, Yahoo.ca, amazon.ca, etc. are all american based companies.)? I started this directory not because I want to be DMOZ 2 but rather a site which allow Canadian to locate Canadian businesses or sites easily and they know for fact that they are browsing canadian sites. The bottom line is there isn't a site yet that i know is fully dedicated to Canadian (atleast not one that i know of). But i will consider what you said about dot com and who knows, i might come up with a Canadian dot com site . Thanks.

Thank you all for the valueable information, will definitely look into it.

I won't list my sites, but for instance there is CanJobs.com which is a Canadian only career site (along with the 40 or so subsites such as calgaryjobs.com). Plus jobscanadianrockies.com and knighthunter.com which are regional career sites. All three are Canadian only sites and all are .com's. Those three are career related which is my main field so I had them off the top of my head, after checking out my bookmarks I found the following sites.

http://www.canadagoes.com/
http://www.canadiancyclist.com/
http://www.ccrg.com/
http://www.nealenews.com/

There are tonnes more, I just posted a few to prove a point that if your goal is to make a directory of Canadian sites then limiting it to just .ca domains is not your best strategy. Now if you are really into .ca domains and are only concerned with them, then cool, it is your site, do what you want with it.
