press release distribution - how can it be made effective

I've few questions on press release distribution.

How good it be to go for press release distribution to generate traffic for my website?

I've made a list of 50 free press release publication websites. If I submit there it will be published in their sites. But I want to target for a coverage in popular news medias across different states in US. I'm ready to pay for it.

Can anyone suggest me how can get to fulfill that? Is there anyone who give the same service?

But I also hand submit my hot list of publications directly to the editors. Depending on what I am releasing I will FED EX samples of the product, swag AND the release. Makes a huge impact.

I have gotten free press in many magazines just for sending samples

I don't do press releasing.. I just thought that doing that thing is just a waste of time. I just put my article on my blog and optimized that blog..

My site is a service so there is no samples to give. (reporters and editors are greedy so they want samples)

I've been looking at site/companies that claim they will move your press release around and the one thing I want to see that most of these sites don't have is: Show me the press releases that made it to the news.
I found one site (out of 20) that actually did show press leases they put out there that did get in the news media.

So my attitude for these sites is "they're full of B.S." Now I just blog the release and hope for the best.

In the U.S. there are 2 major papers that if they carry you storie it will go like wild fire. NYtimes and the Washington Post. I suggest looking at newspapers and see where they get their stories from and submit it to them.

FED EX is a courier service. I send samples of my product/service or tshirts etc to the magazines and news agencies I want to target specifically.

Do they even consider it?

I've always done them just through the web, in terms of the actual mailing of products do you mind sharing the list of magazine companies you target? This is very interesting...

I doubt how a press release can be a good link source for SE rankings becoz the content will be same in all websites. I'm not only looking for online visibility, it'd be great if it goes to niche editors for review purpose. I think prnewswire would be ideal for it. what do you say?

It depends on the release.

If it's tech related I always include WIRED, Popular Science, Stuff, etc.

If it's for men I target Maxim, GQ, Details etc

If it's celeb focused I target People, Star, and other celeb rags.

Every press release I sit down and say who would I want to see this story run in.

PR is not about quantity it's about quality. I would rather have one good story in WIRED than 20 crappy mentions on some unknown blogs.

You are right a good PR, well distributed will provide an excellent exposure on all the best media.

The traffic that my PR generated is incredible. I recommend anyone to try making one that work with your website link.

Question, I have read about press releases and I have a new blog that I think would be quite useful to the medical field. It is a blog about personal experience, not just trying to be informative like so many are.

I'm looking over PRweb, it seems fairly expensive but I might give it a shot. Which one do you recommend? They have 4 packages ranging from $80 (Standard Visibility) to $360 (Media Visibility)

Unless you got a newsworthy story, chances are slim any newspaper would publish it. Buying newspaper ads probably could be much easier to deal with.
