Twitter
Hi all.
Wondering if anyone has experience with Twitter. Seems that some are raving about it as being exceptional for marketing and traffic. Anyone like to share their views on this?

Well I use sites such as del.icio.us, reddit, digg, stumbleupon, and twitter. If you learn strategies to promote your website, then these sites have the potential to attract mammoth amounts of traffic.
If you don't know much about these sites just visit them, read what they offer, and maybe search for some articles on google and yahoo.
sorry i couldn't be much more help.

No problem Hamish thanks for responding. Naturally like most, we use social networking sites as you've mentioned and more besides with good results, but I was just curious to hear from members here perhaps, if Twitter is cracked up to be all some are saying it is.
There are several good video series on the subject of how to use Twitter at Youtube, which I've been following, but as you'll know probably - taking on yet another marketing tactic takes time to learn and then to do.

I have a twitter account, tried it out and didn't see how it helped me market my site. Of course I am not a good marketer anyhow, but still..
I have seen it is very popular, but I guess I didn't give it much of a chance.

It does seem to be very popular. What I've done so far is try to find as much info on it as possible i.e. Youtube how to's, opened a Twitter account and found that there's a Twitter feed that can be hooked with your blog, which feeds your Twitter account automatically from your new blog posts.
If you use WPress on your own domain, there are several plugins.
Then there's Twhirl, which is a desktop application that can be hooked up with your Twitter account so you can do tweets in seconds from your desktop and follow tweets from others, find twitter friends etc., as well plus tons more that I haven't gone into yet.
Really I don't know much about it but seems worth looking into.

Twitter seems like waste of time to me. If you go to a profile of any person in Twitter, you see that there is some kind of discussion going there, but you can't understand what. It is kind of a "slow-chat" and it is pretty much useless if you ask me...

That it could be a waste of valuable time - I'm a little inclined to agree in part, but any tactic that's ethical that will bring traffic and sales is worth looking into before discarding. It might turn out to be a waste of a little time - but I'm compelled to know
Naturally we all use these tools in different ways, but I can't help thinking that when there are tons of people using Twitter for marketing - can they all be wrong?

I haven't used Twitter, but I have used several others, with traffic. The problem seems to be the "kind of traffic" I am getting. It's not targeted, so it seems almost useless in my case.

Twitter is like a one-way chat. I don't think it'll bring good traffic. Or if you got so many friends following you maybe there's a chance for them to click your link. Am using twitter as posting my daily rants =)

I found Twitter to be very useful when I attended Blog Orlando. Josh Hallett, the coordinator of Blog Orlando, set up a "Blog Orlando" group.
During the "un-conference" as Josh calls it, we could Twitter back and forth to each other. If we had a question about a session or couldn't find something, we could send out a Tweed and get an answer.
During the opening session, Josh sent out a Tweed saying the first person to show him the Tweed wins a free ipod.
Twitter is an excellent way to keep up with what other people are doing while you are at a conference. While the Market Leverage team was in San Francisco at Ad-Tech, Missy Ward sent me a "Tweet" to tell me to let the Market Leverage team know that the plane was delayed by three hours and for the team not to rush to the airport. I received the "Tweet" on my cell phone so it is very useful!

Same here, I registered because I saw the popularity of it, but It doesn't really help market my site as well.
