Masking email address in email

We own an exchange server which is set up to host the domain xxx.co.uk.

We send out regular emails to our exclusive members from xxx@xxx.co.uk. We also run a less exclusive scheme and want to start sending out regular updates via email to these customers.

The problem we have is that we want to send out these emails from a seperate domain yyy.co.uk but we can only host the one domain on our server. yyy.co.uk will only be used for the purpose of emailing these members so we want to avoid paying for expensive equipment.

Would it be possible to send something out from xxx@xxx.co.uk and mask it as xxx@yyy.co.uk, then use web forwarding to forward any emails from xxx@yy.co.uk to xxx@xxx.co.uk?

I hope i haven't over complicated this issue.

Yes. It's called "spoofing" and is considered fraudulent behavior.

Why would adding a second domain cost you extra? Does your hosting company restrict you to one domain name? Find out if you can just add a virtual host and configure it for email. They'll occasionally just consider this a subdomain. It doesn't require extra hardware.

From what I understand we can only have one domain on the server. Does that sound right?

No. That does not sound right.

Contact your hosting provider.

Ask them what it would cost to:
  1. Add a virtual host entry for the domain you want. In your example above you used: yyy.co.uk.
  2. Configure yyy.co.uk to receive email.
  3. Add your xxx username/alias/group to the mail system.
  4. And you can either use xxx@xxx.co.uk to your replyto field, use a group alias in your aliases file if using sendmail, or just add a .forward which points all email received at xxx@yyy.co.uk to xxx@xxx.co.uk.

It should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete the list.
