How successful is SMS Marketing

Hi Guys,
I have heard that sms marketing is a good way to earn traffic to websites. I understand that the latest gadget upsurge has made it possible to surf the web on the mobile instruments now. But what I don't understand is that the probability of these searches and how far do you fee these searches are going to be beneficial.

There are some millions of people who are Online at any given point of time, where as when you send SMSes it is going to a certain cut out- niche crowd only. When the conversion ratio of Online marketing where people are actually sitting on the computer to SURF the net, is gradually diminishing as direct searches are becoming more popular. How do you think MOBILES can make people surf, when I assume in 80% of the cases, they will be busy doing something else other than surfing.

SMS marketing can improve your popularity if you send sms with free offers where you'll attract them's attention to remembr or save your site on them's mobile phone... it's long way marketing strategy but it's not useless...

Next to the Internet, the 2nd most effective way to promote a website is thru SMS (since many people have mobile phone now!)

Here in the states, SMS is VERY expensive. So, that's out for most users in the states. too bad though.

I have a negative attitude to this kind of promotion. Moreover, I think it is just a waste of time for SMS marketers.

Does anyone have access to statistics or hard evidence that SMS marketing is profitable or viable? I don't like the whole idea of it. I know I get annoyed as hell receiving the messages, I don't see how anyone else enjoys it. I'd receive one and be like, "who the hell are you?" LOL. It's an interesting concept, but not one I like.

I tried it before,, there's a site that allows us to send sms to different county for free..
The problem now is, how to get phone numbers of people..
there's a method also for that,, I just forgot how to....
