marketing campaign only online possible?

I want to start a regional cars for sale site. Do you think marketing it only online and have it grow to be well trafficed is possible?

I was thinking of doing ppc while working on backlinks for organic search results. Buy ad space on regional online newspapers too.

Any suggestions?

Marketing on line is always risky. If you can (without a doubt) hit your niche you'll do well.

Your best bet may be buying ads in the classifieds of newspapers. At least your hitting your "niche" and market area. Start with local once a week print and go from there.
There's a service ( I forgot what it is called) that will hit a lot of papers at the same time.

Online marketing just one of the way, and hard copy promotion such as newspaper is still useful because of your target area. IF you only target on your country, you need to consider those do not use internet.
I will suggest you use both online and offline promotion
