MySEOblog, your listing of free tactics is very illuminating.

Executed properly, contributions to specific social networking sites can quickly place you on page 1 of Google, Yahoo and MSN within a matter of DAYS and keep you there! I'm indicating this from experience not from theory.

With the right approach to social networking sites I've seen solid 10 year old+ and very highly established and trafficked web sites lose page 1 positioning to a start up url. The start up url is still in position for the competitive keyword after almost a year. This is a natural page 1 Google Yahoo and MSN ranking, now receiving a flood of relevant traffic and competing with the big budget companies almost over night.

This is a distinction and a departure from the engagement rules traditionally adhered to by webmasters and seo types.

there are many ways in promoting your site your free.
all of those have already mentioned above. but if you really have a quality content in your site. you really don't have to promote that much your site.
i also use craiglist in prompting site. just use some unique title and offer site that they can't resist.

I agree with this one. As a beginner with regards to knowledge in SEO, it was always implanted in my mind that the best way to get backlinks is blog commenting and forum posting. I never thought of Yahoo Answers as another effective method. Not only does it give you potential backlinks, it also increases your credibility (as long as you have the right answers of course).

Anyone here familiar with QR Codes?

This only really works if your site is geo-specific/relevant, but you can just start slapping QR Code stickers onto things all over town. Walls, in restrooms, inside trains.
Very guerrilla marketing.

There are only two down sides.
First is that it's technically vandalism if you don't have permission first.
Second is that a lot of people don't know what they are, so you may have to put a little bit on it that says "QR Code" or even a link to QR Reading software for their phone, like i-nigma.

But yeah, I'm going to start doing it around town for events.

HI..really nice tips but i think you missed one more free technique to promote your site is joining Social Groups Like: Google groups and Yahoo Groups. So just make your communities which would surely help to spread online presence of your product..
