How to know if a site buy traffic

Hello,
I am looking to buy some ad space on a local site. They say they get 80,000 visit each month and they charge $400/month for the ad I want.
The price is good for me but I actually can't believe the get 80,000 visit; content would only interest local people and I live in a region with only 40,000 people.
I would like to make sure they don't simply buy that traffic to boost the numbers and charge more for advertising. Is there any way to know that?

the first question I would ask you is: how do they track the visits? how do they share that info?

is it 80,000 uniquevisitors or 80,000visits? That's a huge difference.

then their 80 000 visits are worth nothing. How do you know it's not from some automated process to refresh the page every minute or so etc...

there are many ways to fool stats. Ask them how many unique visitors they get before buying anything from them

Yes, I agree with Juliensimon..you also don't know if that's local traffic.

This is simple to find out.
Ask them to send you the link to their server stats. "like webalizer"
Do not except screen shot. Live Link.
when you get to the link review the unique visitors, hits and also IP address, location where is the traffic coming from. what time, what days.....
that should clear your mind.
