Hi, there from SF, CA

Hi, there... got few questions re: SEO
Does affiliating with Popular Membership/Informational Sites (industry-specific high-ranking membership/info dir-ies sites)... work better in some ways to get listed faster?

Also, adWords... how effective are they and how much does it really take to spend a day to get a good conversion rate? I know, I know, google specifies the minimum, but i don't want their help section info... but rather, I'm looking for answers based on real experience from real people who've done it lots and lots of times...

and the last one: I've seen this statement a few times now "Meta Tags are dead" ... are they? is it true? if something that's a common practice is dead? then what's in?

tnx

Meta tags are pretty much worthless, Adwords is great, but you need to choose your keywords wisely ( read this for more info on that: http://www.internet-marketing-resear...topic8857.html ), and what do you mean when you say "affiliating with"? Do you mean advertising on?

thanx for the answer...
as far as "Affiliating with" - advertising? well yeh you could say that... this particular client of mine is in very specific industry and the part of being in the business they are in is having important memberships (sort of puts the biz on map within the industry and validates it)...

tnx

Yes, meta tags are pretty much dead. There are still some small search engines and directories who use them but not the larger ones (e.g. Yahoo!, Google, MSN, DMOZ).

What's in? Proper SEO.
Getting the site to read specifically related to the keywords/keyphrases with the right tags (e.g. Title, H1, H2, Bold, etc.) and content to include volume and density is one part. Getting inbound links with the keywords/keyphrases specifically as the link text is another. Getting inbound links from pages with higher PageRank (PR) values is another.

There is more and the search engines continually change making it a somewhat "moving target". This is why there is so much on forums like this one about Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
