You can use Applock app in your phone. You will get the same from the playstore.

The app will look like a simple file manager and will display all the files and folders on your Android. To lock a file, browse for it and long tap on it to open a popup menu. Step 3: In the popup menu, select the option Lock. You can even batch select files and lock them at once.

A phone with a fingerprint sensor will have it's own file or application lock feature.
If you have such a phone then you can restrict the inbuilt file explorer application as a whole or others suggested, you can have a separate file lock application where you can secure some of the files. But with this, I doubt the files can still be opened via other applications.

Choose an application from the Store, there are plenty of them which are free.
