First explain your position

First, promote a website if you are a beginner.

Honestly, being a beginner places you at an advantage in many areas. For one, since you are new, you are more willing to test and try out new techniques. Most people who are already "seasoned" tend to stick with some methods and never bother trying out new ones which can work better for them.

So, what are the strategies you can use to promote a website? One of which is something you are reading right now. Yes, it's an article. Most articles online will have a link that leads to somewhere and you can do it as well. Write an article filled with good information and then you can send it to various article directories so when people read them, they will visit your site.

Another way is to use paid advertising such as search engine marketing like pay-per-click advertising, banner advertisements or buying ezine solo ads. These are faster ways to target a large responsive crowd but they require some capital to start.

A great strategy to use is to make use of viral marketing. By viral marketing, it means word of mouth. By getting one other person to spread the word about your website with content like videos, reports, courses, etc, it helps to generate visitors who are recommended by others... which you did work for only once.

Next, how to promote a website targeted for beginners.

You must make things very simple for beginners and you must speak to them as clearly as possible. Avoid use of bombastic words when you can use easier words to get the idea across. Technical terms should be explained quite often in the early phases.

For your graphics, you will also want to make it as bright and snazzy. A website that looks like it was cheaply made gives off a signal that the owner is "old" and "outdated". By making your website clean with good graphics, it will encourage beginners to stick around to find out more.

Lastly, make your site a resource site. Most beginners will stick to a site if they find that the site is full of resources which can help them. They will come back again and again even after they've become an expert. Then, when someone new asks them about how to find certain things, there's a very good chance that they will recommend your site because that's the exact site they learned a lot of things from.

Some good tips in this thread, but the best one is work hard. That is the key, it isn't easy to promote a website and get good traffic and positioning in the SERPS, but when you eventually do it will be worth it.

Agree with working hard, give users quality content, good layout not too crowded and professional graphics. But nothing comes easy.

The best way to promote your website is not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Try different means of promoting your website. Don't just focus on one method.

High Quality Content is good, much better is to offer a useful tool for your audience, this will attract a lot of backlinks and traffic to your website!(Of Course: This is High Quality Content!)

Press Releases can bring a lot of traffic to your site too.

Here are some more tactics I use:

-article marketing
-Video marketing
- Blog Commenting
-Squidoo and Hubpages
- Social Networks like Twitter, Facebook and so on

Hope this helps you....

Can't argue with that

All methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Newbies need to focus on just a couple till they learn the ins and outs then expand
