Long Term Website Ideas?

I am starting a new project i would like some long term websites ideas? I say long term because i have about 25 static sites now and it’s boring and mind numbing making those 10 page static sites. I now want to start a bigger project i had a quick look at making a site like huff post, due to the price of buying / renting the licences of that many photos, I would not be able to start a site like this, the average cost per page was over $100.

These are my other ideas, everything will be custom built, no free scripts or paid It will be made from scratch; also everything will be free to the user.

I thought about making a good quality site like enzinearticle with really good cheat protection, no auto submission from programmes like nuke.

I looked at 100% free dating with webcam chat, a bit like a site called “person” but with the look and feel of “plentyoffish”. Also this "premium" stuff would not be on my site, every user would be equal and it really would be 100% free no extra credits or anything like this, It would also have a mobile app and facebook integration I know it would take a long time to build a community but it would be a long term project.

I do not want to invent my own idea it’s too hard, I have had a few very random ideas and then I think yes!!! I then search google and it’s been done millions of times. So now I just want a similar service with maybe a few extra features.

Any ideas will be appreciated

Sorry i only just realized I posted this in seo i am not sure if it belongs here i am not sure how to move it

Mike,

If any of us had a really good idea, we'd be doing it! My guess is that most of the users on this forum are seeking the next FaceBook, or Twitter, or Google or ...

We're all hoping one day to make a million from some really innovative website that takes off, that becomes the next big thing, and which we can sell for ten million or so a couple of years later.

If I could think of something like that, I'd be working on it in secret until it was up and running. What I wouldn't be doing is sharing that information on a public forum.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should take suggestions with a pinch of salt. The suggestions you are likely to see on a forum are the type of generic suggestions that don't make much money. Those who ARE making a lot of money probably won't have the time to spend on a forum!

Mike,

Why do you want to do this (Long Term Website)?

If it's not for money then make site related to your hobby.

But if it's money then just find some successful site and if you like it then copy it with your own twist

Maybe think about it from a differetn angle. Instead of building bigger and better; imagine, create and build the next X. What is it? I certainly do not know, but you could think way out there and build it...think about it from a fax to fedex to email to instant messaging, someone always had to build the next X. Thing way out there and go for it!

Well, this doesn't belong to SEO, but you can relate it in someway or the other.
Well setting up your own blog and adding the AdSense service is surely the best way to make some good money without investing that much. Do not start more than 2 or 3 blogs at a time, as if you do than you won't be able to concentrate on any of them. If you work on such websites properly than you would be easily making at least 500$ / month after hard work of 4 to 5 months. Besides that, better the PR of your website more it would be credible in the eyes of search engine and more money you will be making from it.

Mike the one thing I've learned about making a good site is that it just has have a feature or tool that users need to use or reference again and again. Particularly focus on the tools part. Those are the type of sites that seem to be peeking peoples interest on sites like Kickstarter. Think about it, in your offline activities you have tools in your house for a reason right?

A rich content site is great but everyone is competing in different niches to be the next best content site to attract the attention of Google. A tool based site could easily become a brand site and that's what Google and most people like and trust most, a recognizable branded sites.

I think you took the industry wrong in the first place. It's good that you see now that quality is way better than quantity. 1 site can make 3 times as much as 25 sites.

My advice: Focus on what you know/like, it is much easier to maintain a website you like. Before you choose a niche, make sure there is room in the niche to expand.

I just posted a similar response to a different thread!

What you need is a broad niche that you love!

I love music so any long term projects I think about starting always revolve around music.

Having said that I am yet to start a real long term project. In the future I would love to own an online record label / distributor / store.

Still with Beatport and iTunes around it's going to have to be something really special!

There's another thing ... think about the competition before you embark on anything long term. Forget social networks, there will be someone out there who has done it better. As soon as you have a unique selling point, someone will just make it as an app for one of the big social networking sites and thats your project ruined.

Focus on 1 website. Create a website on a topic which is your favorite one. You need to understand that income at starting will be really really very less. You will need to create a useful and valuable website for users.

Ask yourself why people will come back to your website? You need repeat visitors to make your website successful. if people come to your website and never come back then you will fail.

Create a website that has a purpose and build audience. For example, you can start a quotes website. You will be able to build audience because lots of people like reading quotes. Start with something small and then expand.

Can you go into details about this and provide any legal worries the thread creator has to worry about?

Hmm...so you need a long-term idea for a website? None come to mind to me right now, but I can offer some advice. The best thing you can do is find a niche that hasn't been done extensively, yet is still interesting. Probably the safest way to begin is by doing some keyword research within an area that interests you so that your project will be profitable and appealing. However, there are many websites that just fill a void that people have and so become popular. For instance, a unique site called RapGenius offers a trendy service by attempting to explain the meaning behind rap lyrics. It got featured in a Bloomberg article and has exploded in popularity. It's a novel idea that hones in on a unique desire (rap lyric meanings) and does a pretty fine job at it. You might not get that kind of success, but if you focus on keyword research for awhile and not rush into things, you'll have a better chance of success. Good Luck!

Whichever website you choose to build (service, Adsense, affiliate marketing etc.), make sure that it's of a nature of interest to you in some shape or form. This way it will be easier to stick it out long enough to see results.

one of the most important website tips is to ensure you do not devise a business solely dependent on adsense, the new Google algorithm can pick these type of sites so to get organic traffic will be really hard after a shortwhile....

Any search engine can pickup google adsense with there crawlers. Most business people know already that you don't build a business around 1 revenue option. It would be suicide if someone decided to do this and a very bad business decision.

Which new google algorithm you talking about? Google created adsense so they will recogize it for sure with there crawlers then do there best to provide relavent adsense ads.

sorry, should have made myself clearer...the algorithm update in April (penguin) had a role out which affected websites which had google adsense in a number of places...

what i have learnt is that adsense should be used carefully, i heard that having a content heavy site with a 90-10 % ratio between content and ads (including adsense) should be the norm to get good search engine listings...

Long term ideas can include e-commerce websites. They make you earn a lot.
