Would You Do Business With Someone You Didn't Like?
Between blogs, Facebook, and Twitter, I follow quite a few people who run an online business, especially marketers.
Every now and then I am surprised to see how some popular people act in social networks. Some make fun of others, or are just plain jerks.
What if you really wanted to check out their product or service though, would you do so even if you really don't like them as a person?

I would check out a necessary product...
But for a jerk I would try to find another source.....before I sent the bad guy...(or gal) any money....

There is a major difference between being a jerk and crossing the the line to disseminating hate (crimes). I might do business with a jerk as long as it was a hands off transaction where I would not be associated with that person. Honestly it would depend on my interest in the product, other options and exactly how obnoxious the seller really is.
Edit: As an after thought I realized my governments requires me to do business with all sorts of people that I may not care for. They call it the Equal Opportunity Housing Act.

Lol, As a business owner I have chosen not to do business with folks that could help make me money by selling my product. Simply because I didn't care for their personality or views.
Probably a bad choice as a business man but money isn't everything to me. Guess that's a weakness of mine, thanks for pointing it out Cricket. Lol

Definitely would not. If they were not acting respectful on social networks its doubtful that they would act professional with their clients if something went wrong with the product or service that they are promoting. There are lots of suppliers out there for every product and service, it's always better to do business with people who aren't jerks.

I know exactly what your talking about! I see this all the time, especially on Twitter. Its like people don't think before they tweet.
Don't waste your time doing business with people like that.

Never really thought about this! There aren't any online businesses that I've personally seen this with but a few local businesses! If they're not professional and ethical in all areas of their business or how they present themselves to others online and in person why would they expect people to hand over their money to them, suggest them or even promote their business!
This is from personal experiences I have had the last few months that have made me decide to wipe my hands of 2 local businesses that myself and family have used for many years and brought them in many customers!
It's sad because this is such a depressed area and not many local business any more!

I think we all faced this issue at a moment. So, once you experienced this, i think you will avoid doing business with someone that starts to be a jerk.
I think those kind of guys don't have a long time period of doing any kind of business, since they will keep being this way with all the people, and probably everybody will avoid doing any kind of transaction..

If they are jerks, why should you do businesses with them? I think there are other sources of the product or other brands similar to it--nothing's too original nowadays.

It depends. If they are great business partners that can help to boost your business by a fair bit but they are jerks, why not? Mr Lee Kuan Yew had once worked with the pro-communists to get votes even though he was against the communists. It is quite literally "riding a tiger".
The business partner is a strong individual in the market like a tiger but it is dangerous to back-stab him. I personally would if he made a significant impact on the market, otherwise, definitely not.

Absolutely not, I'm stubborn and would risk losing money by not doing a deal with a jerk.

Depending on what they did.
I have met a few people in my time that were very blunt, to the point of being horrible to others. These people would me up no end but you what, they are good at what they do and THAT is what is important to me. Heck, I am not planning on going on holiday with them (lol!) just business.
Some of the poeple I have met who were like that ended up being good to me and good friends, and good to have on side.
When someone is like that, if I can see that they are good at what they do then i make myself a challenge to try to win that person over and it works a lot of the time.
If they are just making fun of others and are just bitching all the time, then I want nothing to do with them, but if they are just short with people to the point of slightly rude, then I would work with them.

I agree with G10. You don't have to get friends with those people..just business. But business is my friend ... so tht's difficult again.

If I really like the product and only he has it, I will have to buy from them. But If other can supply similar product, I will turn to others.

Definitely not -- I'm for helping good people get ahead in this world. Perhaps if everyone had that philosophy, the world would be much better.

Not at all. This would be the most imprudent idea to do business with a person to whom you don't like. For positive results include positive people in your business that understands the value of a business.
